Pros and Cons

So, I'm in the midst of making a decision and was wondering what you think the best and worst aspects of Syracuse are.

I would be in the honors program if I went there, and am thinking of majoring in psych/international relations/sociology.

For me, going to Syracuse would be kind of huge, because I like in Washington state, so its super far from home.

hmmm… i’d like to second this notion… pros and cons please?

First, general pros:
Resources of a large school–huge variety of student orgs, interests, tons of classes to choose from, AMAZING faculty, and a fantastic honors program.
General cons:
The city of Syracuse shuts down when it’s nhot either working hours or partying hours…which is a little disappointing, but if you’re not looking for another NYC then it’s not a huge prob.

For you–
Pro–honors is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and the opportunity to have Maxwell faculty (#1 in the nation!) for your IR/soc classes would be pretty much unbeatable.
Con–clearly the distance…Hancock isn’t much of an airport so you’d probably want to look to Roch or Buffalo to make flights cheaper, and you can always find someone driving from one of them. Or there’s the train–the station is right next to the mall and there’s a free shuttle.

I wouldn’t even consider the airport a negative. You can get to anywhere from Syracuse, just not nonstop always. I just, after three years, found a direct (not a nonstop) flight from Tampa to Syracuse on USAir. It stops in D.C. but at least I don’t have to change planes. To travel to Rochester 1 1/2 hours or Buffalo 2 1/2 hours involves more time, bus, train, possible delays unless you can get a ride but it still takes awhile.

Sorry for the repeated post, computer stalled!

what about tutition wise?

i’m debating between here and the university of washington? Since UW is instate tuition, I am paying considerably more at Syracuse. (No financial aid, $12,000/yr merit aid). Would you considered the smaller class sizes (you deal with HUGE lectures at UW) and the honors program enough to outweigh the additional cost?
