and it happens to be a really big goal of mine. I just took the new SAT in March so there isn’t a score yet and I have a current 4.333 (will go up if I receive a 4 or 5 on the AP BIO exam) GPA weighted. I am going to volunteer at hospitals during the summer and apply in multiple positions to become an officer at my school next year as I am currently a junior. Any advice for me to be a success in receiving an acceptance? Do I have good chances?
My advice would to have a great personal statement, something that stands out a lot. I feel like that’s what they were looking at this year, trying to get a “feel” for your personality. A lot of people with high SAT scores, high GPA, and many ECs / community hours didn’t get in so they don’t just base it on academics. Try to avoid cliché stuff on your personal statements. I honestly don’t remember exactly what I wrote for mine but I put an experience of when I visited my mom’s home country. Even if you did good on this SAT take it again in fall. 4.33 is your GPA weighted but what is your current CSU/UC gpa? I feel like a 3.7 + betters your chances. oh yeah also when it’s optional to write something about yourself do it!!! Like after you put in your grades off your transcript it gives you a box asking if you’d like to mention something about your grades. And there’s a part after the personal statements where you can give additional info about yourself. good luck you sound very smart, you’ll get in.
I agree the personal statement is EXTREMELY important^ Another thing that could help set you apart from other applicants is community service, employment and extracurriculars. Personally I got into UCI as a bio major with a gpa of 3.00 and sat score of 1800, which isn’t anything special, but I had a very good personal statement and I had a lot of employment experience. I also have a friend that had much better grades than I did (gpa 4.5 and sat about 1900) and she was rejected. At the end of the day admittance is based on luck. When an application passes the first two readings, all of them are put in as possible admittees and the final admittance decision is decided randomly by a computer. Hope this helps.
