Hi! I am currently a sophomore in high school. NYU is currently my first choice school, and I have a few questions. I want to major in English with a possible double major in Media, Culture, and Communications.

First of all, is it possible to double major in English and Media, Culture, and Communications, as they are in two different schools?

I am registering for my junior classes. I am currently in Trig/Pre-Calc, and I am choosing which math to take next year. Should I take AP Calc AB, or AP Stats? My reasoning is that since I want to major in a subject completely unrelated to math, wouldn't Stats be okay?

Any more advice would be greatly appreciated!

As a School Counselor, if you plan on majoring in English or another liberal arts subject, AP Stats should be fine as long as you take a math class in your senior year.

However, in terms of admissions and the competitiveness of NYU, Precalculus and Calculus are subjects that contribute to a rigorous high school curriculum in general. Since you are taking Trig/Pre-Calc, you are most likely being prepared to take AP Calc AB.

If the rest of your schedule already seems heavy and you don’t want to risk not doing well or want to focus on other parts of your application, NYU Admissions will see that.
