Hi, I’m from a northern state and am completely charmed by the idea of ole miss as well as southern culture in general. I will be visiting Oxford this school year and hope to get a better feel for it all, but I was just wondering what the atmosphere of Ole Miss is like behind the scenes. I’m not sure yet if I would rush, simply because of the cost, but I fear that if I don’t, it would negatively impact my social life. What are your thoughts on this as well as just the idea of someone completely foreign to the area coming to school here? Also, does anyone know how Ole Miss’ Political Science program is? Finally, does anyone know if the academic excellence scholarship is automatic money if you are eligible? Or is it a competitive scholarship with few available? Thank you in advance for any advice!!
My son received the OOS Academic Scholarship - it was automatic based on your scores. If your ACT/SAT goes up your amount will as well. Not sure where they rank in Poli Sci. You should also look at the Lott Leadership Institute. My son was accepted there as well. From what I have heard, and witnessed, you do not have to be a member of greek life to have a good time. You will find your niche! Good luck!
Definitely support the above statement. There are over 250 other types of organizations to join including student goverment, service organizations, etc. So, greek life is just one part of student life on campus. Are you considering law school with poli sci? Ole Miss has a law school on campus so you can make connections there. Also, the Lott institute can help provide support for students if you want to go into a public service route. Ole Miss has three finalists for the Truman Scholarship this year. https://news.olemiss.edu/three-um-juniors-named-truman-scholar-finalists/
