@IYAtrojan, thanks a million for answering. I know people get a little nervous and knowledge is calming. I appreciate the “dress code” info.
@IYAtrojan Thanks a ton for all that info! Ahhh I’m still nervous though (well, and excited)
So guys… how did it go? I don’t think I did that great lol whoops.
what were some of the best ideas
Mr. Iovine gave a short speech and a long Q&A session for the prospective students and parents Sat. evening. He spoke about the importance of working hard at whatever you are doing, the value of listening, and how humility trumps hubris. Humility is “sexy”…who knew? I know that as a parent, I was very impressed. Decisions will be out by April 1. Keeping fingers crossed.
I don’t want to post my video or anything on this thread, but if any future IYA prospects reading this thread want to contact me with questions they are welcome to PM me! Good luck to everyone!
which of the 1-minute videos you liked
@bmoney17…we didn’t see other applicant’s videos.
@bmoney17 Ah I don’t think we should talk about others’ ideas because it may be revealing of their identity, which they may not want.
@whatpoint77 and @IYAtrojan so how much weight are the interviews exactly LOL.
@awesomekid In all honesty, I would look at the application process as two rounds of admittance. The first round is being admitted to interviews, the second round is being admitted to the academy. If you got an interview, I would say its reasonable to conclude that you being admitted is almost all weighed on how your interview goes. You fit their GPA and score requirements, so I’d say at this point in the application almost all of the weight is on the interview.
any guess on how we will be notified?
Decisions are out, they’re included in the USC acceptance
If it says I was accepted to the major of Arts, Technology, and the Business of Innovation, that means I’m in at IYA, right? I know that probably sounds dumb I just want to be totally sure. It didn’t say “Iovine and Young Academy” anywhere.
Time for class of 2020 thread now!
I just applied… does anyone know when they send out emails for interview? @Legitmeister
Late January @RBV820
@dvgbhs did you get an email saying that you didn’t get an interview? Or did you receive nothing at all? I’m just wondering because no one on this website for class of 2020 posted they got an interview and it’s past the January deadline. So I’m curious if getting no email means we got rejected or the office is just running behind schedule
@MsMommy do you know what kind of questions they asked during the interview?
@collegecurious15 My son said that they mostly asked questions about things in his artistic portfolio. They also asked him about his least favorite class…as in…“which is your least favorite class and why?”. I also know that in exchanging notes with the other interviewees he discovered that they were all asked different questions. Go in prepared and relaxed…that’s my best advice. Enjoy the events they have planned for you…be sure to interact with the current students who are there. This is your chance to find out more about the students and the program. See if it is really a great fit for you. And my son really loves it there. Don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions for him.
@MsMommy Thanks for the answer! Were the questions more straightforward like typical interview questions (strength/weakness/why USC/biggest achievement, etc) or were they those odd ball thinking questions (how many cows are in America, personality questions, situational questions, etc)? Do you know what they are looking for in an applicant?
