Prospective student

I was wondering based on my description if I am a good match for WashU:
I am valedictorian of my high school class. I took the hardest courses offered to me. I spent many long nights working on homework. I like to learn about something as much as possible. Every subject interests me and when I find something that interests me I try to find as much information on it as possible. I have never been to a party in high school. I have about 5 friends that I usually hang out with and watch movies with. I am a pretty quiet person, so I don't have very good debating skills. I am also friendly and modest. I plan to study biology or english and go on to med school.

Yes, academically you are a fit; however, I think socially, WashU might be a bit of a new experience for you. Not a bad one, but there is definately a lot to do here @ WashU (not necessarily in STL) and people are very friendly. WashU is big for pre-med and bio so this is definately a good school to come for, for this major, and the English here is pretty good too. So I'd definately say apply, I am sure u'd get accepted! In fact, you seem like a good candidate for some of the merit scholarship awards.

i agree, you seem academically fit, but u need to experience more socially, go out to some parties, try meeting new ppl, go out on a bunch of dates, then u wont be so quiet anymore, because there are more qualified students academically then there are spots at WashU so u have to "sell yourself" to them, so u'll need more than academics, and most importantly have fun doing it, they want ppl that are happy, and can have fun otherwise it would be a bad place to be, and they dont want that, hope that helps

Thanks for the comments

I wouldn't be too sure about being accepted...WashU is getting harder to get into every year. They overenrolled this year, so they are going to have to chop down on the number of accepted applicants next year by a good 500 or so to account for 1. the reduced number of spaces available 2. the increase in yield.

Still in my judgment you have a very good chance at getting in, going by what you've told us so far. But I do agree with what the others are saying about social life. Also, WashU has very rigorous pre-med and a solid English dept...you'd like it here.

academically, you're fine but unlike some elite private colleges, the kids at wash u or at least most of them are highly sociable and that's part of the reputation that wash u has. in terms of what you wanna do in college, wash u's premed is quite reputable.

i wholeheartedly agree with what everyone else has said. you've got a great shot at admission, but washu is a very social school... based on your stats and interests, you sound a LOT like me, except i debate and party. often at the same time. then again, this isn't to say that you won't fit in at washu: when I spent the night there, I stayed in a sub-free dorm, and you'd probably fit in perfectly well with those kids. and frankly, even if you don't want to drink or go out on thursdays or the such, you'll probably find your niche at wustl. finally, keep in mind that college is a chance to move beyond your comfort zone. you definitely fit the academic profile of a washu prospie, so don't be deterred by the social scene. it's a big enough school (and diverse enough) that it shouldn't be a problem. just apply; the only thing you've got to lose is the application fee.
