I was recently accepted into both of these schools, but I’m struggling with which one to pick. Stonehill is significantly cheaper for me than PC, but I feel more of a draw or PC. Can any recent graduate, attendee, parent, or recent admit help shed light on which school is better?
Better is in the eye of the beholder and wallet.
If they were equal in cost here is my take.
Stonehill is a pretty school and much smaller. Easton, Ma is a traditional eastern MA suburb. They have wonderful and down to earth students by reputation. They seem to build a nice warm environment and the students become close. Academics are solid. Somewhat along the lines of Assumption, St Anselm and St Mikes.
PC is larger, and in a fun city but not downtown. It’s in its own neighborhood. The students go downtown for concerts and hoop games. They are Big East basketball and a super competitive men’s ans womens hockey school. Big track tradition as well with many top distance runners training there. Academics are excellent. Alumni networks in RI are really strong. Some good rivalries with Brown and URI. Legitimate business school if that’s of interest to you. Many grads I know go into law for some reason. It’s a traditional path.
Similar types of students overall. PC a bit preppier and from higher income families if that matters to you.
It’s also a very generalized view I am sharing.
Thank you so much for your insights, I will keep all of that in mind!
THink about which school can the easiest land you top jobs
Think about the location, which college is at the best location especially if you want to find a job there after four years
The money label may be true in most cases but the aid office differs by school to school too. Like a state uni thats less competitive in terms of rank likely has a less financial aid package for you. School with higher ranking may has a higher financial aid for you and cancels more and left less in its amount.
Think about each’s national level ranking which affects tons (on USNWR).
Now left you to decide and look on the national rankings .
I was in the same boat as you last year. I am currently a freshman at PC and it was one of the best decisions I could have ever made. All of the professors are extremely understanding and caring, as they the want you to understand the material. The atmosphere of the school is great and everyone is social and willing to be friends with you. Whatever type of activities you enjoy whether it be sporting events, theatre, dance, camp min, etc… PC has it. I moved in early for the Urban Action program which is a service program that allows you to get situated and meet a bunch of people before the rest of your class arrives which is definitely worth if you choose PC. If you have any other specific questions let me know as I would be happy to help!! GOOOO FRIARS!!
I was accepted at Providence too and am weighing my options. I visited in February for an accepted student day, but I am wondering how much of the party reputation really exists. As a freshman, I want to have fun, but gpa is the name of the game for options after graduation.
Is this not the Villanova forum?
@cltrising no it’s not meant to be there. I’m new to this site and posted a Villanova before this one… for some reason it also put this one on the Villanova thread. Idk how to change it so I didn’t
