Provost Scholarship

Has anyone heard about the Provost Scholarship yet? The GT website says those selected will hear sometime after the EA decision release. Are they notifying people on the same date they notify people about the Presidential Scholarship?

Provost is usually 2-3 weeks after admissions decisions come out. Presidential is a longer process involving interviews etc so those decisions do not come out until much later. A student may be notified that they are in the running for Presidential around the same time as Provost but the final decision for Presidential/Stamps Scholars is much later.

@itsv Okay. Thank you. I was curious because I know provost has been released in late January in the past, but this year presidential semifinalist are going to be released fairly early (January 17th).

Sorry, I am wondering where you saw it will be released January 17th? Do you know if it will be by email or through the portal? Thank you!

Oops meant to tag @lijrobert ^^

@emxplusb They sent an email out yesterday which said, among other things, that “Stamps President’s Scholarship notifications will be released this Tuesday, January 17, at noon via mydecision.gatech.edu.”

@lijrobert I was accepted but did not recieve an email…was it a “Congratulations on acceptance” or a completely separate thing

@emxplusb Huh, that’s weird. Did you check your spam?

Can you get the provost scholarship AND be a semifinalist for the Stamps Presidential Scholarship?

@UMath101 Yes, but keep in mind that they’re done through separate offices. Getting one does not mean you’re getting the other.

Nice. Also, do you know if you get anything for being a semifinalist if you don’t make it to the finalist round?

@UMath101 No idea. Probably not, unfortunately.

The notification in January will just be that you are in the running for Presidential, not that you are receiving the Presidential scholarship. Students in the running have to go through I think two levels of evaluation including being interviewed either at GT or locally. I don’t think semifinalist receive a scholarship, but I can’t say for certain. I know there has been some changes to the Presidential/Stamps scholarship where I think students receive more scholarship money and benefits now. Students could be awarded both Provost and Presidential but it is highly unlikely and the scholarship benefit cannot exceed the cost of atendance. In the past Provost has primarily been for OOS who are from underserved groups. It is not 100% because some other students who are not from underserved groups have received them, but most of the students I know who received Provost are from underserved groups.

For all students, don’t forget to apply to scholarships provided by your local GT alumni groups. The awards are from $1K to $5K, but every bit helps. I think the deadline is soon. Going through the process is also a good way of getting to know the GT alumni in your area which could potential help in networking for internships.

No money for semifinalists.

Last year all finalists who attended the scholarship weekend received the equivalent of the Provosts Scholarship.

All Presidential scholarships were upgraded to the full Stamps benefits last year! It’s a great program!

@lijrobert One of my students today received notification that they were a Stamps Seminfinalist so those emails have gone out. My student will be interviewed by a local panel from our area around mid-Feb. Just thought I would pass this info along.

@itsv I got an email today too. I’m a Stamps Semifinalist! I’m really psyched because I didn’t expect it at all.

Anyone hear about the Provost Scholarship yet?

So I got a Provost selection email today and I have a couple of questions:

  1. Is this a multi-step process or do I officially "have" it, assuming I attend? Like Stamps has regional interviews and the weekend at GT before they award anything. The email mentioned three dates that they want Provost scholars to visit, so is that another level of selection or just a regular visit?
  2. How does Provost interact with Stamps? If I get Stamps, do I just lose Provost and they give it to someone else?

Thanks for the help!

@jennack No idea about the first question (you should ask the admissions office), but the second one is fairly straightforward. You can be in the running for Stamps and still get Provost, but if you get Stamps, you won’t get Provost.

I got an email from Provost today! so exciting!!!
