Psat 2012 Wednesday Discussion

So how did everyone do? Missed a few on math due to careless errors...killing me all day! Should have been only -1, think I have -4. Thought the second CR section was difficult passage wise, but vocab was relatively simple. Writing seemed normal, typical section.

Prediction
-4m
-4cr
-3W

Hopefully 190+, that is all I want.

Prediction -0 m
-4 CR
-5 W

Hopefully the curve is generous and I can get a 212.

I doubt the curve will be generous, nor the semifinalist cutoff score.

The test was extremely easy compared to last year’s.

I found the math to be incredibly easy. The CR passages of section 1 were a breeze.

Some questions: On math, was the socks question 4 or 7?
For writing: Was the mistake on #26 on the lady depicted becoming a child “during”? Or was it no error?

Did anyone else find the math to be surprisingly easy? Math was supposed to be my worst section and I think I actually did the best on that, and the worst on CR, which never happens for me.

Also, only about 4/5 words from DH Core vocab 2011 were on the Psat.

the answer to the socks would be 4 because we had 3 different types and wanted at least one matching pair.

Let’s be especially vague since the last discussion thread was deleted-- I personally think saying “socks were four!” is hardly divulging a question, but I guess we should tread more carefully than in years past.

I put the “during” one as no error. What about the language CR-- “religious significance” or “sensory qualities”?

sensory qualities

For writing, did you guys get alot of answer no error ( like 3 or 4)

I put sensory qualities and I got like 2 no error for the writing section

I had 3 no error. 26, 28, and one other one.

I don’t recall the “during” question. Anyone want to refresh me (vaguely, if you want)?

Did you guys remember choosing “impartial” for an answer?

& one that says “passage 1 is different because it uses a pronoun” or something along the line lol

lol my question is how are you going to be “vague”.

Yeah I don’t remember the during question.
And I put sensory qualities too.

I was thinking about impartial but ended up going with unequivocal.
The writer seemed biased towards hydrogen considering he immediately ruled out solar, wind, and other viable energy sources, which is why I eliminated impartial. I didn’t really know what unequivocal meant at the time but I looked it up (unambiguous, clear, leaving no doubt), and it seems to fit.
edit: 2 of my friends also put unequivocal

<— I fail at CR but theres a chance that I could get 80 math and 80 writing. I’m very polarized.

For the thing about “sensory qualities” I put a different answer altogether I think? I think I must be wrong. I can see now that it could be sensory qualities, however when I read it I thought it meant that the words were descriptive and sensory in definition. But in hindsight, I would go with sensory qualities because she said she would roll the words around on her tongue.

Also for the “watered” thing cleansed or moistened or something else?

For the watered question, I put consumed xD lol

& for the math section did you guys put 1/4 or 1/3? & there was on with a table where it asked for the value of “y” I put 20? But I totally guessed? Any thoughts?

I put moistened

yea i put consumed -_-
