Emeraldkity- I would strongly suggest you check with the collegeboard before she takes any test with them without accommodations. You don't want to jeopardize her chance of getting accommodations for the SAT. My son's counselor was up to date on where the forms were kept in the office. A friend of mine's counselor told her she needed to request them from the collegeboard. Same school. The school probably has the packet somewhere. Check with the psychologist. I would skip the PSAT and start the paperwork now for both the ACT and the SAT. Go to the collegeboard website and they have a section on disabilities and read what the procedure is. You might be able to download the forms.
It is your choice and your D's where she applies and what test she takes. I feel it is all about having choices. If she doesn't take the exams she has no choice but the city college. If she takes it it will open doors.

I don't believe that your daughter taking the psat without accomodations will jeopardize her chance at getting extra time. I had very little accomodations for the psat (I got to write on the test instead of the booklet) while my main request and nead was more time!!! Somehow I was still able to do well and get 191 (huge surprise). After this came in, my parents were like there's no way that they will grant accomodations now. However, soon after that we got a letter from the college board saying that I was granted extra time. Extra time worked great for me, allowing me to score a few hundred points higher! so i dont think that there is anything wrong with taking the psat in terms of the college board itself

so another update
I spoke to the counselor again, who has called the college board & they said to go ahead and send everything, even though they usually take 5 weeks to process and the test is early Oct.

The counselor doesn't want students to use accomodations for PSAT, unless they are potential NMS, because he reasons that it is supposed to be practice, and he hopes that the discrepancy in test results with and without accomodations, will emphasize to schools/college board, that accomodations are needed.

They are giving the PSAT to all 10th and 11th graders during class, so even if she didn't want to take it, that would make her "not like the others".
She does want to take it & doesn't seem overly apprehensive, so I am just going to start the process for the SAT ( I got the forms today & the counselor said the school would pay for overnight ship, if I wanted to pursue accomodations for PSAT), and find out what the ACT requires as well.

There are schools that dont require either, as well as schools that downplay importance of testing, but it will help to give her more choices, even if she takes a year off, I doubt she is going to want to retake SAT
