PSAT Dilemma

hello to the people of CC, as many of you know, the new PSAT came out this year. I am a junior who has taken it, and I received my NMSQ score back, which was 211. I live in Maryland, which I know has a dramatic cutoff, but I am deeply conflicted. I looked around for cutoffs and some places said around 211 while other sources gave me 220. I also found put that the past had me down as “NO” for high school student, which is a requirement. should I even try to correct this? Or is my score too low?

Many people think the estimates here might be relatively accurate o close:

It puts Maryland at about 218.

We have a thread about cut off predictions here –

Commended will be lower of course. Good luck.

see thats one of the things that bother me SO MUCH. The DAY before he said it was around 211 and that was the one that showed up (the january 7th)

@CA1543 I take it you don’t think I should fix the problem because the cutoff is out of my range?

Are you saying that CollegeBoard thinks you are not a high school student, but you will only fix that if you think you will make the NMF cutoff? You should probably just fix it anyway. As no one knows the new cutoffs, it might be more of a hassle to fix it after they have announced the cutoffs and identified NMSFs.

@intparent I have tried to reach out to them about it, but they said the earliest they could get back to me is April (they said that back in January) and I while it is troubling that they put me as “No” for high school, I don’t see how that would matter for colleges, as they would obviously know I was in high school.

Colleges don’t care about your PSAT score. Although if you checked yes to get mailings, they might still leave you off their mailing lists (that is not the worst thing that could happen!)

@intparent I understand that they don’t care about the PSAT, I am trying to get the national merit scholarship because my overall application is on the weak side of EC’s. I have band which I have spent a lot of time with and I’m also working on an NHD project which I think will definitely get to the Maryland State level ( I live on the eastern shore with no competition, and I have a very interesting project so far), but other than that I don’t have anything else important because I have to work at my dad’s shop 20 hours a week to help out my family. So you see I’m doing this out of necessity.

‘Working’ is an EC w a lot more gravitas than a lot of fluff ECs other students use to pad their resume. Don’t worry.

@GMTplus7 that is NEWS to me. So I can put that as an EC and colleges will see it as a meaningful activity? I suddenly don’t care about the National Merit Scholarship.
