PSAT Irregularity????!!! PLEASE HELP

I called National Merit yesterday about why is that my counselor told me that the national merit people wanted me to take the SAT in either march may or june and send my scores to them. I was thinking that I could have possibly qualified for national achievement. However, i was a little skeptical about that because my friend didn't have to take her sat to confirm her psat score until either september or december or last year I believe. It turns out that there was some type of "irregularity". They assured me that it was nothing of my doing. I did have to wait an extra month for my scores, i got them Jan. 31, 2013 Thursday. I have no idea what went wrong. I was a little upset because my psat scores would not be considered at all. So does this mean that i kind of get a second chance to qualify but through SAT scores. I'm confused. Can someone give me some insight????? PLEASE???????!!!!!!!!!

I cannot help you with this. BUT, you can order a copy of your scantron and then compare it to your score sheet and see if you see anything.

It’s unlikely anyone here will know. Get back on the phone with NMSC.

Well I have my score report back with all of my correct and incorrect answers but it all seems normal. It corresponds with all of the scoring charts. I don’t see anything wrong or strange looking.

Call NMSC for the full story.

LDGQQQ, our student had this same experience. It was an administrative error on the part of the school. It was un-nerving because the PSAT score was so high, it was certainly finalist material, but we had to hope that the March SAT would be as smooth. And we are impatient people (waiting for SAT results, however, is nothing like waiting for acceptance letters this year!–and for the private LAC, we have another 2 months to wait!). The essay portion of the SAT did not count toward the NMS scoring. The one thing that I would advise is to make sure that YOU indicate on your SAT paperwork that results should be sent to NMSC. We were never given this information by our student’s school (which interfaced with NMSC). Our student was not announced as a semi-finalist in September and we knew that couldn’t be, so we contacted school, which told us that the March SAT scores were never sent to NMSC (nor had we ever been told to send them). Long story short, I sent an e-mail to NMSC, they called me immediately, explained that student’s scores did qualify (based on the scores I sent them), and that NMSC just needed to receive the official March SAT scores. We ordered them immediately from College Board, and within a week, school expanded its announcement of semi-finalists to include our student. Then, there were the finalist steps of retaking SAT in October (did even better), writing essay, having school recommendation. Supposedly, rejection letters for finalist status should have been received by now and schools should be announcing their finalists this week, so it is looking good. In any case, the people at NMSC were extremely helpful and nice. I just went to their website to find phone number and e-mail address. Good luck to you. I’ve also proctored SATs and AP/IB exams, and you wouldn’t believe the administrative rigidity (which is good; but challenging). The “irregularity” could be as simple as your packet’s envelope not having been sealed; or, your testing packet being misplaced and turned in late. Not fair to you, but, who knows, in the long run, it might be to you advantage. I hope that it is the case. Best wishes.
