PSAT - Is it worth it to get a tutor?

My son's school gives the PSAT's in Oct. and Feb. of Sophomore year.

I have heard that the score on the PSAT affects scholarship money from NMS.

Does anyone recommend getting a tutor for a few weeks before taking the test?

how do they give it in Feb? The Collegeboard only offers the PSAT once a year...to my knowledge, at least.

anyways, your better off getting a SAT tutor, and just have him/her touch up on a little for the PSAT but otherwise dont sweat it.

buy a review book and just take a couple practice tests...and get in the habit of reading long passages for comprehension..and grammar rules..otherwise a tutor isnt really needed

My daughter took a four-session PSAT "clinic" that she said really helped her. She said the PSAT was unlike any other standardized test she had taken up to that point, in that solving some of the problems seem counterintuitive. Regarding NMSF: It's hard to assign a dollar value to that. Some schools will cough up money, but the top-tier ones don't.

just take a regular SAT prep course.. I actually took an SAT course during the summer, and took the SATs a week before the PSATs.
got 2200 on SATs
and
228 on PSATs

But, ultimately, only the junior year PSAT score counts toward NMS. So it doesn't really matter what your son gets in sophomore year. Unless your son's school is an exception.
