PSAT/NMSQT Class of 2019

In the past, Art Sawyer looked to NHRP cutoffs as early signs of what might happen with NM. NHRP eligibility emails are coming out today. According to @txmom11 NHRP cutoff for the Southwest region is 1270 for Class of 2019. This is DOWN from 1280 for Class of 2018.

@evergreen5 and the interesting thing is that when I called - I was told it was by state this year and not region

^Really? That would be a huge change. I wonder what prompted that.

@evergreen5 @txmom11 When are those NHRP numbers released? I googled it but can’t find anything recent…

@homerdog - they are released Feb 1 - you can call or send them an email

@homerdog As far as I know, they don’t publish the list of cutoffs. The info is just from what people report on the internet. Or, you can call or email. Emails from those who checked the box on the PSAT and have a qualifying score are expected today.

what is NHRP? and where do you call? Could someone explain this please. Many thanks

@LvMyKids2 National Hispanic Recognition Program https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10/scholarships-and-recognition/national-hispanic-recognition-program

I live in California, and recieved a 1470 on the PSAT. It says my selection index is 221, but some sources say its a 222. The projected cut-off for my state is 222, but it can fluctuate from 220-222, and idk

@puppypop25 On your College board account, it should state your official score index (there is a separate section for it). There should not be any confusion as to what your score index is (?)

Go with what’s on your score report. Not all 1470’s are the same.

What are the chances the Oklahoma cutoff goes down by 1? Last year’s cutoff was 216 but before that it’s always been in the 210-214 range

I recently got an email from OU congratulating me on my PSAT score, and showcasing their national merit scholarship. Do colleges already have access to my scores ?? Or is the email just part of mass recruiting ?? I’m guessing the latter, but just asking to see if anyone has any thoughts.

@SlayMeLove I got a similar email today too. I don’t believe colleges get our actual scores so I have no idea for they would know.

S19 got it too. No one knows what the cut offs are so I don’t get why OU would send an email like that. That being said, we have a friend there double majoring in ballet and chemistry and she loves it!

@SlayMeLove - CB probably gave your name to the Student Search (assuming you didn’t check the box telling them not to - or is it check the box telling them “yes”? Can’t recall LOL). If OU subscribes to that list they will request students above some threshold but shouldn’t have anyone’s individual scores.

My S19 is a couple points shy of the predicted cut-off for our state and I don’t recall that he’s received any NM stuff. Still, if the threshold is something like all SI’s 211 or higher, then he might well start getting mail from OU, UCF, etc.

What is OU?

^^ University of Oklahoma = OU

OU heavily recruit NM students from OK and nearby states. In the past, anyone with NHRP scores or above will receive some attention from OU. Class of 2019 NHRP Region 4 SW score is 1270 and most likely NM commended score will be around 1420. OU will also match scholarships for any NM designated students from OOS.

Good Luck,

My S19 got a 1430; however, it was heavily skewed to EBRW which is twice-weighted compared to math so his SI is 218. SI’s are included on the score report so it might be possible for uni’s to use College Search to retrieve contact info. for everyone over a certain min.
