PSAT results are in

I hope my score is that....I really want to make the cutoff and I don't know how I did, except I remember not being confident about many of the writing questions.

I got my scores, but my school only gave us scores and percentiles. To say the least I'm a bit disappointed.
CR: 72 (98%)
M: 69 (95%)
WS: 69 (94%)
Selection Index: 210 (98%)

I know I'll definitely be commended, but I was so ambitious of getting national merit :(. I know that not making one stupid mistake in math and having just ONE more CR question right would have raised my score to a 76, and 217 overall. I'm not even bearing to mention writing. Good-bye, Semi.

I live in Fl as you may have noticed, and this puts me 5 precious points short of the 215.

But I did improve from a 190 last year (59 CR 61 M 70 W) so I guess I shouldn't take that for granted.

CR: 73 (3 wrong, 0 omit)
Math: 77 (1 fr wrong, 0 omit)
Writing: 71 (4 wrong, 0 omit)
Selection Index: 221 (Pennsylvania)

I hope the cutoff doesn't go up too much!

i read in a PSAT book last year that cutoff for MA is average of 221

anyone know what the commended cut-off is?

the PSAT scores are still NOT in at our school - WHAT IS THE DEAL?

same here....

most likely 202 or 203 ...

Wed.

CR 64 (-6, omit 2)
W: 69 (-4, omit 1)
M:76 (-1)

total: 209.

Heh...You know what? Arkansas' cutoff last year was a 206.
Hmm...At least I live here.

The curve was harsh, but I deserved this score, so I guess I will have to wait and see what happens.

I'm happy, but as many of us say, "I knew I could do better."

So there it is....

Congrats to all of you

I got my scores by the phone today (I took the Wednesday test). Unfortunately, the caller didn't say how many questions I got wrong in each section, but she did mention my percentiles.

Math-60 (81%)

Critical Reading-63 (91%)

Writing-78 (99+%)

Overall Percentile- 96%
Selection Index- 201 (Ouch! This is probably going to be one point below commended! :()

To those of you who still haven't received their PSAT scores, just hang in there! They WILL come eventually and it is probably best to focus on other things (like the upcoming holidays, for instance).

hey im a sophomore

I recieved my scores today and was dissapointed.

TOTAL- 186
math-64
CR-53 YUCK
writing-69

Can i make the cutoff for chicago next year? I think cutoff is like 217 so that would mean improving my score 30 points.....seems a lot since i can only improve 11 in writing and 10 in math..... but CR is my weakest because ive never read and i dont think reading novels would help now.

So can it be done?

Of course dude....

People have gone from 190s to 230s....

Personally, the CR that the PSAT tests isn't something you can learn from reading. In fact, it's rather AGAINST everything that reading teaches you.

For instance, most books are open to interpretation and have phrases with ambiguous meanings-- essentially making them a more powerful piece for the reader because the reader projects their own feelings into a piece.

Anyways, when tested subjectively, it is impossible to defend an answer which has a basis in your mind and in the reading. Therefore, you have to learn what the test makers are looking for.

Went from 167 to 204 ... 37 point increase... you can definetly reach your goal by next yr... just takes a little time, patience, and hardwork....you can do it!
BTW, 186 as a soph is pretty good... do you know that you prob beat most of the juniors in this country that took the test?!! lmaoo....i know of many ppl that went from 180 to 220,230, and even one 235!!! anything is possible

Lissa and DiGamma,
What rank are you guys in your class out of how many students?

I got my scores in today and I am absolutely freaked. I placed 84% on Math, and like 27% on WR/CR, which blew me away (49% overall, OMG!!, when I used to do CSAPS, I would be 97-99 percentile on everything). I thought I aced the test. I feel pretty damn stupid right now, considering I am one of the top students in the state GPA wise. I hope I dont pull this on ACT, i am aiming for a 30 at least, and I should be able to. What do you all recommend I do to improve my scores? :( :(
Patrick, Alamosa, Colorado

http://www.hello.excelitehost.com/college.html
http://www.hello.excelitehost.com/

30 would be kinda hard if u got 49% on the psat, i donno, its always possible. on another note, so 201 is also 96 percentile? as indicated by Lissa.

well Patrick, I do believe that I'm placed in the top 5 of my class of 548, so my scores are slightly discrepant, having a 2020 on the SAT and 210 on this. But then again, only 4 seniors received commended and 1 received Semi-Finalist this year, so at least as far as my school goes, I'm well on par.

Sr6622: I COVET your state. :(

Aw, DiGamma, sorry to hear about you not making Semi. You seem to be one of the most motivated PSAT posters that I can recall...you were here days before the scores were up. Good job though on your PSAT score. 210 is not too shabby and this is just the PSAT. Do well on the SAT and I'm sure you'll be all set.

I was following the thread and noticed someone making a comment before. An asterisk by your Selection Index doesn't mean you didn't make the cutoff; it means that either you do not qualify for NMS (because you are a foreign national...etc.) or, generally, you are a sophomore and still don't qualify.

Oasis, thanks for clearing that up.

I covet my state also....

hopefully the state cutoff won't be too high
