PSAT results are in

I got my score report today, so the following information might be helpful to those of you who are trying to figure out the curves for the Wednesday test.

Critical Reading- 63 (7 incorrect, 1 omitted)

Math- 60 (5 incorrect, 5 omitted)

Writing- 78 (1 incorrect)

By the way, what did the "Improve Your Skills" part of the score report say that you needed to work on? Mine said that I needed to work on organizing and managing information in multistep math problems. Figures. I've always had trouble with that.

guys!!!!!!! Today was the official PSAT give back day - so I somehow managed to get the curves for M,Cr, and W for the Wed and Sat test..... I will post them some time tonight!

The way I read the National Merit info (from the link above) she can take the SAT in Oct and Nov of senior year without a problem, and although the Dec test would probably be okay, I would take it then only if I was trying to significantly raise my score for NM.

So, she could retake in Jan, Apr, May, Jun 2006 (junior year) and Oct or Nov 2006(senior year). That's a lot of choices and she would have plenty of time to do some practice tests. I honestly have no idea of what SAT score would be sufficient. Maybe someone who knows more about the scores will post.

I doubt a 2090 would threaten your NMF status at all. It probably needs to be at least a 2000 or so.

good job Vinny thats awesome post them for sure! My school still hasn't received them!!!

Below is the OFFICIAL 2005 PSAT Curve (I did not make these up)!!!!

Thanks man, The wednesday Curve is SOooo Much Harsher thats Bs

thats so helpfuld. Thanks a lot. I know for sure i got above 60 so I should be a semifinalist.

thanks vinny!

Hey Everyone could you please Help me Im confused!
Okay So As You see above the Curve for Wednesday's math test goes from 80 to 76, So If u miss 1 multiple choice u go to 76 but what happens if u just left 1 blank on the Mult section or lets say u leave 1 blank on the Free response, Would that mean a 78 or so or how does that work? Also similar but how would say skipping 3 and leaving them blank in CR be different from getting 3 wrong and receiving a 73? Please inform me lol

vinny- your math curve is not 100% correct. I made a 64 but you dont have that on there.

Im aware of the state-by-state cutoffs and whatnot. I live in Massachusetts, and I know that it should be high here. I got an SI of 221... what are my chances of making semifinalist? Can I retake it? (I'm a Junior)

Grr... I hate how I can lose 3 points for forgetting to subtract 8 from a number.

Some of my (disappointed) friends' scores: 237, 233, 230, 227 (she was horrified)

My only satisifed friend's score: 240

Scores of people too ashamed to talk about PSATs: 213, 214, 218

NJ REPRESENT.

The highest I have ever seen a cutoff for a state is like 219. I believe 221 should be fine. I don't know why I'm in the PSAT thread anyways.

Could somebody explain the whole commended, semifinalist, etc. thing for me? Is the cutoff the one for semifinalist or is it for the 99%tile thing? And how do you go from being a semifinalist to a finalist?

There is a national cutoff for commended. Last year it was 202. The cutoff for semifinalist varies by state - someone has already posted last years state-by-state cutoffs earlier in this thread. In May, those who will be receiving some sort of recognition (commended or semifinalist) will receive a letter, but it won't specify which recognition. A lot of people posting here will be able to figure out what the commended cutoff is at that point.

In early September, the semifinalist notification letters will go out. At that point, you may be able to find someone posting the state cutoffs. The letter will include information for applying for finalist status, which includes reporting SAT scores which are in line with your PSAT scores, completing an application and essay, having grades which support your status, and being recommended by your school.

Letters notifying of commended status are distributed in late September/early October.

Finalists are notified in February or March. I believe 15,000 of the 16,000 semifinalists are selected as finalist.

From a thread last May, here are the 2005 Cutoff numbers (for the 2004 PSAT). Numbers probably float up and down a few points from year to year. So coolg, I'm afraid you're definitely in the "wait and see" category. Sorry

is it going to be much lower this year because of the curve. I heard that people were 99th percentile with a 211. Is that true. People are posting different numbers for two tests. I care about the saturday one, not the wednesday.

Just got them. Index of 221, Michigan resident. Stupid mistakes on the math section, grrrrr.

That looks good for NMSF, right?

I know, I know, read the email above for the stats.
