takeme2cali: Thanks for the tip. According to the National Merit website, one must either be a permanent resident or have applied for permanent residency without having been denied. Until 2007 (when my dad's contract with my country's foreign ministry runs out) I'm neither.

The CR section had too many vocab. words which I didn't know.

Breakdown

CR:64
(Gah!! Am surprised.. I thought I was going to score 70+.)
Got 9 wrong.
Half in which I got wrong were Sentence Completions when they only make up about a 1/4 of the test, lol.

W:70 (Around what I thought.)
Got 5 wrong.

M:77
Got 1 wrong.

The SAT which I'm taking in January is guaranteed to be better than 2110.... especially since my parents have me studying SAT vocab. words like crazy.

I feel so stupid... I'm a sophmore and got a 189 for my first try. Everyone here is like 200+... but I did do pretty well compared to the rest of class. ~sighs~ 62 on CR, 60 on Math (I really want to improve this), 67 on W...

QT- CC is not exactly a great cross section of the general population. As a Sophmore, your scores are way above the average college-bound Junior. That isn't an easy feat.

Although CC is great in many aspects, it has a tendency to skew a person's view of "good" and "bad" scores.

Hey ebonyqueen...don't worry too much. Math=awesome job. But for better or for worse, PSAT scores SUCK as indicators of SAT scores, the ones that actually matter. So your score is neither CRAP nor indicative of anything. And to cheer you up, writing is one of the easiest sections to prep for, like math, since grammar is a bunch of rules, like math is, that you have to apply. So get an old SAT2 writing prep book and study it up. CR I think is the hardest to prepare for, but with writing you have a whole lotta hope. So you're actually in a good boat! I personally got a 215 last year (80 W, all because I studied grammar, a 71 CR, since that's supposedly a strong point of mine, and a 64 math, which you totally beasted me at!)

Finally!!! My school gave PSAT scores out today, after so much waiting. I'm really satisfied about mine. This is the BEST Christmas gift ever! I desire nothing else.

238

80 CR, 80 M, 78 W

So close to a 240! I got the next to the last problem in W wrong by some stupid reason. Oh well, I am happy. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE OTHER CC members who did well on the PSAT and also to those who unfortunately fell short of the NMSSF cut off. I know PSAT isn't as important as SAT, but weathering through it is nevertheless a mighty achievement. We should be proud of ourselves and give ourselves a nice rewarding break! See you around!

Thanks for the encouragement, jimbob! Yeah, I wasn't expecting the high math, but I'm happy with it. The CR still worries me though. Hopefully I improve alot from now until April.

Does anyone know whether the scores in New York are generally thought to be high or low. Also, what is the story with the 55,000 semifinalists instead of 50,000 last year. Is anything over 220 in NY a shoe in.

Yeah I got a 72 and missed 3 hard questions...seems unfair. And I missed 2 CR questions and got a 75. So 227 for me with all correct in W.
Thank god I live in a 216-ish cutoff state. SUCKS to live in a state like NJ, MA, MD, or even NY because in NC I know a 218 was Nat'l Merit Semifinalist.
