I did not do well at all on the PSAT
Math: 50
Reading: 55
Writing: 55

Like I said, not well at all. Will this prevent me from getting into SS. I am going to take the SATs in January, but the applications for SS are available Jan 1st. I don’t know if I should take the test and wait for the SAT scores to come back then send those scores in or just send in the PSAT scores. Math is usually my strongest point, but I made a careless mistake which messed up an entire section. Darn bubbles. Thanks

I'm not positive on what the cut off limit is, but it is possible that being stellar all-around candidate can overcome some deficiciencies in the PSAT. It is best to turn applications in early, but if you think you can do a lot better on the SAT, it may be advantageous to wait.

Don't send your PSAT score. Take the ACT and if you do well on that then send that.

i applied to SS after not doing so well on the PSAT also, i had scores very simmilar to yours, and i heard from the academy that they did not accepot me to SS but i took the ACT in February and did amazing and a few weeks later i got a call from the academy saying that with my ACT scores i was a lot more competative and so they accepted me. So dont worry but take the SAT and the ACT and just do amazing on them and if you really want it then things will make it work.

Just a suggestion for improving your math score. My best subject is math and so when I took the PSAT and the SAT the first time, I was shocked at how low my math score was compared to my other scores ( and what I thought I should get). I improved my math score by 110 points between the first time I took it and the second by practicing the math section of the SAT ( there are tests online and books available at stores). All I did was practice problems until I could recognize the type of question instantly, it helped a lot because it gave me more time to think about the harder questions when I took the test

I had about the same, I think two 54's and a 55, and I didn't get into SS. But I brought them up a lot, now i have 670 670 620, and I'm doing well with nomination although I'm not accepted yet. I applied to SS like just a few days after the application was released, too.

So you probably won't get in with those scores, but that doesn't mean your stupid, the PSAT is crap and is worthless. Try for the SAT or ACT and send those in.

Good luck.

I wouldn't tell that to the people that got scholarships due to the PSAT....

Well I think all standardized tests like the SAT do not truly measure one's intelligence and what they have learned through high school. But then again, is there a better way... I know 4.0 students with 6 AP's that have low SAT's. Whereas they should be getting into a college, now they can' because of the SAT's. You don't know many low GPA people with high SAT, it's usually the former.

Joe Bag 119, did you send your ACT Scores to the Academy and still get in to SS? I did not know you could do that. I did not get into USMA SLS, I think because of PSAT scores. I got a 170 total. I am taking the SAT in January. Should I try to send those scores, they should be much better.

Thank you for all of the advice. I really need to practice. I am taking the SAT in January and I am determined to improve my score.

Good luck cris2005, I am hoping to improve my scores as well, hopefully we'll both be successful.
