PSU BA/MD personal statement?

The Penn State application has questions specific to the combined program, and one of those questions is a personal statement that asks why an accelerated program and why the Penn State/ Jefferson program?

For those of you who have applied or are considering applying, what kind of things do you write? Is it okay to say you are committed to medicine, and you would prefer an accelerated program to spending an extra year in undergrad? And I cannot think of a good reason for why this program... It is a good program so I am applying.

Thank you!!

Phoebe - why do you want to do a 6 year program as opposed to 8 year program? If you can answer that you will be able to answer that question.

I have a reason for why 6 year over 8 year, and I can explain why I like Penn State, but I really do not know anything about Jefferson Medical School. I can probably just keep my comments to the program as a unit and not to either the undergrad or medical school.

Phoebe9 - Just as you would write an essay for a college where they ask why that college and you would have to go to their website and check their program before writing the essay. You would need to do the same for Jefferson. Of course it does not have to be specific but at least in general know about Jefferson and write the essay. So two things, why 6 year program, and why PSU-Jefferson. Here are some hints - location, one of the first medical schools, alumni…

oh and I also noticed that there are no word limits for the essays - how long are you making them/should they be?

i also have the same question as oliverwood

Same question again. Ugh. I have so many questions about so many BS/MD programs :(

They do in fact have word limits - 250 words for the activity, 500 for why med/psu/accel med, and 250 for strength/weakness

When I did them ages ago there was word limit.

If I can help any of you let me know…of course I have my semester exams coming up in the next two weeks in case I do not reply immediately.
