PSU Class of 2020 Decision Thread

Just curious. It seems like PSU releases in batches. We had one or two trickle out over the past week. Then in the last day we’ve had a bunch. So will new acceptances/rejections be in batches or they are just starting to go through applications and we will be seeing acceptances like this daily? Thanks!

I did notice a large number of the recently posted acceptances were OOS, only a few were PA. Sooooo mysterious

Hey just got my acceptance to PSU main this morning in school. Good luck to everyone else still waiting.

Chances??

@abbeyk711 its hard to tell. I received my acceptance about 30 days after they received all of my materials. But I have heard that they accept the students first with high stats but there really is no way to tell.

Just a quick question, my application status just changed to "Your application materials are being verified. Any additional application materials required to complete your application will be added to your Application Checklist during the verification process.

We will update this message when our review of your supporting materials is complete." should I worry about this? thanks

@slightblue no I got that too and I am pretty sure everyone does.

Do you guys think I’ll get in for Fall 2015 at main campus? I selected the summer option as well. I’m just so stressed out about my stats. UP is my dream school.

Applied DUS
SAT: 1680
GPA: 4.1
11 AP/Honors courses
Enrolled in an english class at Penn State Mont Alto (Head of admissions at Mont Alto also added a comment on my UP application)
I’m pretty sure my rank is somewhere around 76/400
Tons of extra curriculars: a few being- President of NHS, Captain of lacrosse team, employment, volunteer at hospital, homecoming court, and more.

What do you think my chances of acceptance are? Are my stats too low, or am I stressing too much?

@kendyldiane Although I am no expert, I think you have a good chance. You have taken challenging courses while succeeding in them. Your SAT is on the lower side of things but I would say just try to relax because you have done all you can so now it is out of your hands.

S was admitted to COE - computer science

My son was accepted last night. Applied Oct. 5

Major: Biology

SAT: 2130 (800M, 680CR, 650W)
GPA: 3.75 W
15 Honor classes, 5 AP

State: Maryland
School Type: Private

Penn State University Park was never on our search radar until on a whim, we decided to take advantage of the Veteran’s Day Holiday this week and make the 4 hour drive from Buffalo, NY to take the campus tour. And needless to say, both my daughter and I were blown away. And literally overnight, Penn State went to the top of her list – its everything she wanted and more in a college.

So now we’re both wondering what her chances are for acceptance at UP. She has a 29 ACT, 1850 SAT and a 4.0 (W) GPA, 3.87 (UW) GPA, with a class rank of 1 of 54 at a small Catholic High School. Extra curriculars – 3 Varsity sports for 4 years (Soccer, Basketball, Softball), Varsity Soccer Team Captain (grades 10-12), Varsity Softball Team Captain (grade 12), National Honor Society, President of UNYTS Club, Class Secretary (grades 10-12), 50 hours community service each of the 4 years. Looks impressive, but my only concern is with lack of AP courses – she’s only had 1 (AP Chemistry), and that’s now, in her senior year. She’s had 4 Honors courses, and 3 College Credit courses – Public Speaking, Pre-Calc, and English.

Your thoughts appreciated!!!

My son found out this morning that he got in to Liberal Arts as a History major. Great news!
He is out of state (MD) and in the IB Diploma Program at his public school. He applied end of Sept. but it took two weeks for his transcript and recommendations to come in, so his application was complete around Oct. 10.
SATs 1910 700 R 580 M 630 W
GPA 3.5 UW 3.96 W. Class rank top 15%
APs: 5 on US Gov, 4 on English Lang (he did not take the class but took the test)
Three sports, captain in 2, class VP 4 years, other good leadership experience such as school and county-wide student advisory committees, peer tutor, NHS, synagogue involvement.
I think IB DP helped him as his UW GPA is on the low side. And the 700 on his reading SAT probably helped too. I was thinking he would hear a little later, but I think applying early and the fact that he is liberal arts and not engineering or business helped too.
Good luck to all of the applicants! He did not have a “coming days” statement even as of last night.
