^darn it, another one to check every two hours. Just got Auburn acceptance yesterday, so I don’t have to check that one any more, but now I have to check UMN and PSU constantly. My son thinks I am nuts. I am just not patient. Not sure how I managed it back in the 80s when everything was snail mail and all my notifications were in April. We are still listed at “review” but hoping for early decision–35C ACT, 4.02 wgpa, computer science. I understand that it is a very random process, however, based on prior threads…
Checking constantly is a waste of time. The database is updated once a day. And PSU is very hard to figure out, but every year we go through trying to convince people that really, you aren’t likely to know until right before Thanksgiving, or the end of January. I had/ave two PSU students and countless more friends’ kids here, and there is no way to know, and no point in checking constantly (other than ramping up your anxiety). There is no pattern; what happened last year doesn’t mean it will work that way this time… There is no way to know, but to apply, and wait.
The ones that say accepted were a long time ago, it’s a PSU 2019 group that says “welcome to new students” the posts on twitter are the photos from Spend a Summer Day
Also, keep in mind that commonwealth campuses ARE already sending out acceptances. So, just because you see an acceptance posted by someone on Twitter for PSU class of 2020, that does not mean that it’s a UP campus acceptance. It is, almost definitely at this point, a commonwealth campus acceptance.
@zipbags That might be university wide at this point (depends on when he made the speech). The 2014-2015 common data set (so the class of 2018) had a little over 50,000 student applied that year just to UP. The common data set has not been updated yet for the class of 2019 (seems late to me to not have updated it yet) so the stats aren’t listed for how many applicants they had. But if that speech was recent, then I’d venture to guess that is university wide currently. You can expect somewhere north of 50,000 applicants for UP alone by the time all is said and done. Last year they said it was a “record” application rate for UP, but since the common data set hasn’t been updated, we can’t see exactly how many that was.
If you want to see what the application and enrollment is at different campuses you can look at the common data set. Lots of good information there.
On mypennstate under application status it says “No Matching Message for this student. Review criteria within Configuration.” what does this mean? It previously said that my application was currently under review.
@jlhpsu you said it was a rough transition for your D. Are you willing to share your experience? This wait is driving my S and I crazy. He has already been accepted to other schools that are not his first choice. Hate to wait until the end of Jan especially to get housing.
You don’t need to worry about housing – as long as the deposit is in by April, he’ll be fine. If it’s in by February, he’s almost guaranteed his first choice (remember, all the other freshmen are in the same boat).
@crazycat220 the transition wasn’t rough for my daughter…it was rough for ME, lol. Letting go of my oldest etc. She did go through a break up with her bf of 3 years already, so if I said she had a rough transition that may have been what I was referring to . (I don’t recall saying that, but I’ve posted a lot so anything is possible!).
She LOVES Penn State and loved going to summer session. She would do nothing differently. She’s having the time of her life. Most kids don’t get accepted until the end of January, so don’t worry about housing. Plus all freshman are guaranteed housing. The closer to May you get before confirming, the more chance your child will get supplemental housing. But they still get housing.
I would say that if things are like they were in years past, only a few of the Very HIGH STAT applicants will hear anything in November. The vast majority of decisions are released in December and late January.
