Hi everyone, what do you think my chances are of getting into main campus?
SAT: 1860
GPA: 3.68
Major: Biology
Essay, ECs: awesome
I applied for the summer session as well. Thank you everyone for the help!
Branch campuses only, several said they applied within the past week and got accepted to a branch
I remember reading that the picture changes on the MyPennState page when a decision is made. Is that true? If yes…is it just pics of the campus you were accepted to? Thx
I’ve seen that happen to a few people.
Ours showed a picture of UP when status changed to ‘coming days’, and then daughter was accepted to UP the next day. However I think that glitch wasn’t 100% accurate last year?
What picture is supposed to show when the status says “Your application is currently under review”? My daughter’s shows a picture of UP.
@runnergirl16: what’s the highest level of math you’ve completed by the end of senior year? How many years of a foreign language do you have? Do you have all three of bio, chem, physics? Do you have any AP classes?
All of this would influence the decision.
All in all, you should be among those who hear back before January and it’s quite certain you’ll get in.
Are you applying to Schreyer?
Not sure if I should apply to Schreyer.
Stats:
GPA: 3.7/4.0
SAT: 2110 (CR: 680 M: 730 WR: 700)
All honors and 6 APS have been taken
4 year letter winner for 2 varsity sports and captain
3 years in the concert band
Presidential Service Award winner (100+ service hours in a year)
Religious Retreat Leader
Father and Sister attended psu
Family donates
I have taken 3 years of Spanish; chem, physics, and bio; and I will have completed AP Calculus by the end of senior year
You can always apply to Schreyer later, mine is applying as a sophomore at UP, mainly for the option to register for classes early. I would think you are a good candidate either way.
It can be easier to apply as a freshman, though – less stringent requirements. Paterno Fellows and Paterno Fellows Aspirants (gateway program for liberal arts) have cumulative university GPA requirements ranging from 3.4 to 3.7, which are high expectations to maintain. No reason not to apply as a freshman
Okay, you have all the “checks” so your admission is quasi-certain.Schreyer is another beast though - 8-9% admission rate. What matters is course rigor + your ECs, essays, and recommendations. They don’t look at grades - just whether you challenged yourself in every way.
@MYOS1634 - Uhhhh, they do look at grades for Schreyer admissions. They don’t look at test scores.
and it was 5% acceptance last year, not just challenging yourself, but lots of other criteria
http://www.centredaily.com/2015/04/10/4695642/swelling-thy-fame-schreyer-honors.html This page has about 8% for last year’s applicants.
Don’t confuse commonwealth campuses acceptances on twitter as UP acceptances. Most commonwealth campus applicants hear right about now so it makes complete sense that you would see the acceptances lighting up twitter.
As far as the picture goes, that was not fullproof last year and many people were shocked and upset because of it. Basically, while your application is in the process the picture will show whatever campus you applied to - so in this case, University Park. Then, for SOME people, when they received the ‘coming days’ status, their picture and campus info changed to another campus if they were offered a branch campus and stayed UP if they got into Main and some who didn’t put a second choice campus had a picture of a Lion. BUT, like I said, that did not hold fast and true for last year. There were plenty of people who’s picture didn’t change and they didn’t get in. That being said - if their picture DID change, then they almost universally were offered the branch campus shown in the picture (I think that was true for everyone), or denied outright (if they didn’t put a second choice campus).
Offered admission to University Park College of Engineering for start in Spring 2016… Can’t say I expected it
Are you a transfer? If so, what was your college GPA and were you branch campus or community college or ??
So a transfer app for spring was accepted, and many branch campuses that I can see. Nothing at University Park for the Class of 2020 yet?
