PSU Class of 2021 Decision Thread

Does anyone know what this means: “Your application is currently on hold” This is what it says on the tu portal now.

Do you have everything in the checklist?

Not sure maybe try calling the admissions office @nhenry133

Anyone apply to PMM?

@flipkid83 It depends on your stats and what you applied for. If you applied DUS with the option of summer or a similar major as DUS (psychology, etc) and option for summer and you were deferred to a branch, there is nothing you can do. If you applied Smeal or other competitive major and were deferred, you can ask to be reconsidered for a less competitive major and/or summer session. You would need to have a Very compelling case to overturn a No into a Yes in any other circumstance.

I just want to tell you guys that it all works out. As frustrated as you all are now, you should know that in years past not nearly as many decisions were released by this time. 2 years ago, my daughter waited just under 5 MONTHS for a decision. PSU’s decisions are random, and they will tell you that if you do the admissions chats etc. All they promise is that you will know by Jan 31 if you applied by Nov 30. Literally, that’s all they promise.

Also, please don’t get too hung up on comparing GPA’s of those admitted. I’ve seen that really backfire on people who really thought they’d get in, but didn’t. Everyone’s stats applying to PSU are generally great. But PSU will determine grading scale and how your school weights classes. One person’s 4.0 is equivalent to another person’s 3.5. Always try to remember that as you judge that someone shouldn’t have gotten in or perhaps, should have.

In the end, as noted already, you will start your freshman year and no one will know if you started summer or if you got accepted in October or on January 31st. It matters a lot now and believe me, I understand. If you go back and look at my posts from 2 years ago, we were in a panic for much of the time because PSU was my daughter’s only school she wanted to attend. It was PSU or…well, I don’t know. I guess we’d have come up with an alternate plan such as the branch campuses etc…but she did put all of her eggs in one basket, thus making us all a basket case. I have proof. It’s saved on this site for eternity.

So if you don’t hear by Christmas, do NOT assume that means anything bad. Tell your relatives you haven’t heard yet and change the subject. Eat christmas cookies, open presents, binge on Netflix and enjoy your break. Because wherever you end up - PSU or not - August will be here before you know it and then the REAL stress begins! Enjoy your senior year kids…It’s tough and life isn’t fair - but I promise you it will all work out and you will end up where you are meant to be. Happy Holidays to you all.

ACCEPTED! College of Communications - Advertising/PR for Summer (requested Summer, as brother did it two years ago and said it was “best experience ever”)
OOS - CT
3.65 GPA, 29 ACT
Applied around 11/1, heard this morning with no notification of “your application has been reviewed and a decision will be posted in the coming days” etc
SO HAPPY

congratulations on your acceptance! Not sure what you mean by how you heard?

When my son applied two years ago and waited for an acceptance there were “stages” posted on his portal leading up to the acceptance.
The first message said “We have received your application and it is currently under review” (this message was there for several months)
The next “stage” was a day or two before the acceptance and read “your application has been reviewed and a decision will be posted in the coming days” (my daughter did not get this)
The final “stage” is “CONGRATULATIONS…we are pleased to offer you admission to Penn State” or something else if you are not accepted
GOOD LUCK TO ALL! Penn State is such a wonderful place and the perfect fit for my son (Class of 2019). We were honestly shocked when he got in with a 3.3 GPA and 24 ACT, but he currently works hard for a 3.93 GPA and loves experiencing all that PSU has to offer. Would love to see my daughter enjoy it as much as he does.

Education with focus in science

Anyone else accepted this morning and now it says your info is being updated and to log back in later?

I got accepted at about 12 am this morning. I went back on the portal today and got this

Your application record is currently being updated. Please logout and return to your MyPennState profile in a few minutes to see your updated application information.
What does this mean?! I’m getting scared

@a3172c @picture100 same thing happened with me… i called and they said their system is glitching but everyone that said they got accepted is correct. I would call just in case but everyone should be good so don’t freak!

@ba2017 did they say when it would be fixed. I called and unfortunately the office closed at 3 today.

I applied to Penn State on October 7th as an accounting major. Does anyone know if I’ll be getting a decision soon?

@gsmith1 No. You’ll hear back sometime before Jan.31 there’s no way to know when.

I was accepted into University Park DUS for the fall 2017 semester this morning! Application was submitted on October 16. (I also selected “YES” for the summer option).

I have average stats in comparison to those posting on this thread and I was worried I would be deffered to a satellite campus but nope! I think my essay made me stand out and a visit to the main campus last year showed I was interested in the school. (I attend a competitive, nationally-ranked public high school, too.) I hope this helps ease the nerves of those who are comparing their stats to that of those posting within this forum and are questioning themselves. Good luck!
