@hasannadeem47 My weighted was a 3.8 out of 4.3 (my school does weird scaling) and my unweighted was a 3.65 out of 4.0
Also, I am from NJ and have noticed a lot of my friends have been receiving decisions this past week, from Smeal, the college of communications (don’t know the name) and DUS.
I found out December 15 at 9:30pm. I got the email the next day! @averagewhiteguy
@pennst2021 She had a 3.77 gpa, and 28 ACT. 7 AP’s and 8 Honors; a great resume with lots of leadership and extracurriculars, NHS, sports, etc. I was told previously that it’s just a numbers game with PSU, but I really think they take a holistic view of each application.
PSU says they weight GPA and Class Rank as 2/3, SAT and other EC’s as 1/3 of decision process. If a school does not Class Rank would that place more value on your SAT or GPA or neither? Simply curious…
@Oneiota I don’t think that would give your SAT more weight, but it probably does factor in the competitiveness of your school/district. My school doesn’t have class rank either.
Anybody know when the admissions go on winter break? Can we expect any more admissions before christmas?
@hasannadeem47 admissions is on winter break from the 24th-2nd. So we can expect some acceptances next week
Which school do you guys think is more competitive to get accepted to, PSU or Pitt?
I think PSU UP is slightly more competitive but not significantly …the PSU branch campuses are reasonably below Pitt
PrepScholar is a decent quick predictor for any school, I like it as it gives you actual % chances based on GPA and SAT but it uses relative data not actual acceptances/denials like others
I think it depends what major you’re applying for. I think Pitt may be the more selective school
@Oneiota PrepScholar said I had a 40% chance of being accepted to Pitt and an 80% chance of being accepted to Penn State, and yet I was accepted to Pitt like two weeks after applying, but still waiting for PSU three months later haha. Although I guess that has more to do with the way they do admissions rather than the competitiveness of the school.
I’m hoping that admissions will bang out a bunch of decisions next week since they are closed from the 24th to the 2nd
how often does penn st ask for mid year grades?
@averagewhiteguy Were you asked? I don’t think Penn State evaluates them considering both Schreyer and Millennium do not evaluate senior grades.
@averagewhiteguy They don’t. Penn State doesn’t look at senior grades under any circumstance I don’t think except to make sure you graduated.
@hasannadeem47, PSU needs to adjust how they do Admissions IMO, go Early Action or ED 1 and 2. Waiting 3+ months for a decision isn’t productive.
Pitt is a good school, so different then PSU UP as far as campus, city vs college town, etc
Apparently admission offices are closed until January 9th, so there won’t be any more decisions until then. Heard from a friend who goes there
@nhenry123 That seems like a really long time for them to be closed…
