Do you by any chance know your sisters stats? ECs?
@tpsl70 Can’t say for sure since I’ve been away at school for about 3/4 of her high school career, but as far as I know her grades are high in AP and honors classes, SAT score above PSU average, EC’s heavy involvement in things like marching band, chorus, and drama, with leadership positions in two of the three.
Seems to be a subset of students with high stats hearing right now, like @jlhpsu predicted.
Accepted into UP College of Engineering for fall 2017
Computer Engineering
ACT: 33
SAT: 1450
GPA: 4.5
Rank: 7/359
Lots of community service, athlete, clubs
PA resident
Btw … none of my son’s friends that applied have heard anything.
So your psu account will be updated of status before you receive an email?
University Park has started to send them out but they are only for like the top of the top students. People at my school have gotten acceptances but they are like top 10 (not %…top 10 people) out of 440 kids. So everyone else has some waiting to do
I have also noticed how a majority of the kids finding out from UP this week are in-state students along with those who are considered as being the top of the top. I applied to the Eberly College of Science as soon as the portals opened and I have an above the average GPA but with just regular average ACT scores (I’m a horrible standardized test taker). I am also out of state with a legacy, and I have a ton of strong ECs and huge leadership positions so I am not sure if I will be hearing back anytime soon but right now I am just hoping I get in!
Does anyone know of any OOS acceptances to UP yet?
Any Acceptances to DUS? wonder if its a mistake to apply directly to DUS. Is this the last to get sent as they fill the schools first and put people in DUS that dont make the direct admit?
@wowed777 They don’t “put” people into DUS when they get denied. People have to call and ask to be reconsidered for DUS if they are denied. Those people will not be reconsidered until all first considerations are complete. So applying DUS is not a mistake at all. In fact, it is the least competitive way to get in. They do tend to come out later in the game but that’s only because of general stats. People who apply DUS are GENERALLY (of course, not always) people who are trying to maximize their chances of being accepted so they have more borderline stats. Don’t be worried about the decisions coming out now. They are the top scorers. The priority application period hasn’t even ended yet. They will not reconsider anyone getting denied until after Jan 31 or after everyone in that major has had their decision made.
@BreBre235 You may not even receive an e mail. When my daughter was accepted two years ago it was a portal acceptance and then a few days later a packet arrived in the mail. My son applied directly to a branch campus and his acceptance came the exact same way. Regardless, portal change is the first notification of your decision and they won’t tell you the portal changed. You will just have to keep checking it. If you miss the portal change, you will get a packet in the mail so either way, you will be notified.
Are most colleges using the Old SAT to new SAT score converter and then superscoring what you got? This is the converter Im talking about, the one that the college board released https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/scores/understanding-scores/sat-score-converter
I’m asking because I did better on the Math on the new SAT and better on the Verbal for the Old SAT, which is strange, but yeah I had a pretty weird day when I took the new one, so would Penn State convert my old verbal scores to the new SAT scale and then keep my new math score and then add those up and would those be my scores? This is what Pitt did when I applied there and I was wondering if Penn State does the same. Thanks
Also my mom is convinced that it is much harder to get into Engineering at all schools and I definitely got that vibe at Pitt because they literally said their bioengineering program is one of their most competitive programs to get into, but at Penn state they said they let you into engineering as long as you meet the math requirements, so having met those requirements, is the % admitted to engineering much lower than the university average as a whole?
Are decisions posted weekly? or are they at any time?
@averagewhiteguy Penn State does not superscore SAT, so if you submitted both, they would only accept highest single-sitting of M+CR. As for admitting based on major, I don’t have an answer for that. If you’re scared that you won’t get in based on your scores and grades, then you might be better off applying DUS. Hopefully someone else on here can answer your question about admitting based on major.
