I applied to PSU in early October and I am stressing out. I applied to Smeal College of Business. GPA - 3.7 W and SAT - 1240… do i have a chance?
I got accepted into the 2+2 program and obviously, there will be biased answers but is it still worth doing this?
Depends whether you’re in-state, what your budget is, what you want in a college environment, etc.
@hopefulcadet333 In addition to what bodangles asked, the branch campus you would do the 2+2 at also should be considered. Some are more like traditional colleges than others (ie, Altoona, Harrisburg, Erie…). My daughter is at UP (started as a freshman) and my son is at Altoona. Both are LOVING their experiences. So in our case, yes it was worth it - but it was in state and Altoona had everything my son was looking for.
accepted to PSU main campus with a 3.9 UW and 1320 sat. congrats to everyone who got accepted!
Anyone get Schreyer interviews yet? A friend of my DD applied and was worried!
@jlhpsu @bodangles thanks for responding. I am out of state my budget shouldn’t be a problem no matter which I pick. I guess my question is then why do you think Altoona was “everything your son was looking for?”. I will be doing ROTC also so should there be a preference because of that?
@ppst I interviewed for Schreyer last week. Not counting on it though, I suck at interviews
Congrats at interview, though, @michigander1234 ! You probably did better than you thought
@hopefulcadett333 Altoona has a strong ROTC program coordinated with the State College campus as well. I’m not sure about the other branch campuses. My son wanted a smaller atmosphere than UP to start, but wanted to be close to UP for football games and other activities. He wanted dorms on campus, clubs to join and an active social scene. Altoona fit the bill across all factors. With about 5000 students at Altoona, it doesn’t feel too small and it’s still close enough to UP to get up there for things. He’s joined several clubs and even started one himself when there wasn’t one (weightlifting club). For him, starting with a smaller campus with a lower student to teacher ratio has worked really well for him. He loves Altoona. Most do.
Hey, for those who have been notified, how long is the decision expected to be waited for? I just got my portal changed to “under review” 2 days ago and I am wondering about the specific time.
My son applied in October using the coalition app. As of this morning, the portal still has the “receiving lots of applications” message and his SRAR still shows are received but not completed. Anyone else still seeing the same? Seems a bit odd this late in the game.
@ppst I think interviews were scheduled in December ? If I remember correctly, you are only guaranteed an interview if you applied by Nov. 30th (priority deadline). An email goes out in mid-December to schedule them ? If she applied by Nov. 30th and hasn’t heard anything about scheduling an interview, I would encourage her to contact Schreyer admissions. I don’t think there are any “cuts” as to who gets interviews vs. who does not.
others can chime in if correct ?
DD applied in October and her status just changed to under review Tuesday. Hoping for positive news soon.
@caveatesq …same on my son’s portal too…he also submitted first week of november. Stressful.
@JaqueBear @caveatesq My son applied 9/27. His status changed to “Under Review” a month ago. Still waiting… At least we know it can’t be too much longer unless there is a deferral but either way, that’s something! Good luck!
@gcnorth I’m in the same boat. My portal switched to “under review” very recently. Hoping decision comes out soon!
Also, I’m OOS if that makes any difference
@caveatesq Mine is same as your son’s.
@NE_Pats12 OOS here as well.
Does Penn State UP defer or just accept/deny?
@caveatesq I still have the same message and applied before Nov 30. Hope to receive my decision soon, but they do have until Jan 31 to send them out.
