Thank you @jlhpsu ! It helps to have more understanding on why some take longer than others. It is noticeable who is getting told earlier, and these kids have the stats, so they deserve it! But still shouldn’t be totally random, makes those kids who pushed hard in September a little disappointed. Thank you for the insight, and it’s just good to read this thread and know I’m not the only crazy parent out there looking several times a day!!! And I can’t believe your daughter applied on 9/2 and had to wait until January to hear! That just doesn’t seem fair to me. Why have any type of rolling admission then. I guess in the end like you said, it’s only a few months and will be worth the wait if the status says Accepted! thanks!
accepted. UP, Fall.

Congrats to her. What major?
@psuguy1818 DUS. she has no clue. good at/likes math, so considering options.
Is there a standard time after your application is under review until it changes? I have heard some saw a change after 3 days.
@psu2018nj you will likely only hear back in November if your stats are over the top high. U will most likely not get a decision until January.
I’m hoping everyone saying January is just trying not to get our hopes up for our kids. My d status changed last Friday (applied 9/20) and still nothing. She has 1370 / 30 scores. 4.3 W GPA, 3.7 UW, NHS, good extra cirr/leadership positions. Pretty decent overall in my opinion, but considering the posts getting acceptances now, I think she has a wait. Kudos to the kids getting in already, I’m sure they worked hard for those stats!!! A friend’s son heard only 3 days after his status change, but it wasn’t for Upark.
@onthesearch814 Commonwealth campus decisions come out usually much earlier and much faster than UP decisions. Unfortunately, the people saying January aren’t saying it so much as to not get hopes up, but based on previous admission cycles and the trends that go along with them. Your daughter’s stats are high. She has a chance of hearing earlier. But the issue with Penn State’s random acceptances is that while generally ONLY high stats (or definite No’s) hear earlier, not all No’s and high stats hear early. There will be many 4.0+ acceptances in January. Penn State considers their application to be “modified rolling”, not true rolling. True Rolling is FIFO - First In, First Out. Modified Rolling is simply if you apply by November 30, you will hear by January 31. That’s it. It is sooooo frustrating. But it’s the way it’s always been done. Your daughter will likely get in - although I see from other threads that the 4.3 GPA is using a 5.0 grading scale. They will compare her to the profile they have of other students at her school. That’s why comparing GPA’s is so difficult. That being said, her SAT score is high. I would be confident if I were you. It’s likely just a matter of time.
Psu weights there grades on a 4.0 scale… but actually out of a possible 6 points is what I was told by an admissions Counseler (who’s part of the decision process) for example an A in an AP class is worth a 6.0 to them while an A in an honors class is worth a 5.0 to them and an A in a regular class is worth a 4.0 to them. So that Is a good way to compare your weighted with what they have on there website even though they show it as unweighted… also just FYI… that is just for A"s… after it gets down to B"s and C"s the scale shifts much closer to an unweighted scale. For example a B in AP class is not a 5.0 but it is a 4.5.
Accepted to Bellisario!

General Comments: Only check the portal once a day! My status changed to under review a couple days ago, so I was checking like crazy. I checked at 10 pm (no decision) and again at 12:30 am (decision showed up) so it seems like they are uploading them overnight.
Is anyone unable to log in to check on application status. It is saying system error.
yes… it appears that the portal is down for everyone. Maybe they are loading more decisions!??
Thanks everyone! @jlhpsu @Psuguy1818 It’s great to hear from people that have gone through this already and can guide us newbies. I’m hoping to be less crazy with my second child in a few years, maybe. Thanks again!
