PSU (University Park) Class of 2019 Decision Thread

Tooth1010, where on the site is it posted?

@PinkMd @NewPSUMom2015 and @PSUMom1321 Thanks so much for the kind words! I also think we are all in this together, and I do try to support and treat with respect each and every person I come across here. This is also my oldest - so it’s the first time I’m on this side of things with college admissions. And I admit, sometimes the stress gets to me - but being on this site helps me realize I am not the only one! Good luck everyone! :slight_smile:

Someone has probably asked this, but when will we hear about financial aid, specifically scholarships? Has anyone heard yet?

@ozzieD‌ Although I think your VT experience is a non sequitur in the context of this PSU discussion, I will say this: As you well know, if you are from one of the top school districts in VA or MD, the bar for you is raised far above the national stats. I know a kid from TJ who had a 4.2 and combo ACTs of 32 who was waitlisted because he did not take multivar as a senior, when the majority of other accepted applicants had. That’s not the sort of criteria that is published on the website or in the common data set or Parchmont, etc.
But, back to PSU: The discussion is about “ROLLING” admissions. You of all posters can compare this to other top rolling schools – Purdue, Pitt, Mich State, Rutgers – and see the difference in how this is executed. Instead of “rolling” perhaps “early notification” or “first wave notification” would be more appropriate if indeed decisions are not going to be made on a rolling basis. And they are not. That’s all.

Tooth1010… Thanks for the info. Jlhpsu… IAM SO GRATEFUL FOR YOUR POSTS!. You are always so positive and informative. I am impressed that you share information with all of us that you have obviously spent a lot of time acquiring via calls/emails to PSU and hours of reading posts on CC. From reading some of your past posts I feel our daughters are very similar statistic wise,(competitive summer,borderline fall… My D GPA 3.75 U, 4.83 W 15% rank 1780 SAT 1 sitting… applied undeclared 14 AP/honors NHS, French NHS presidential service award, 3 varsity sports etc etc etc) no parent attened PSU ;( My D is oldest of 4 and we are just learning this process. I too feel extremely frustrated that applicants applying after 11/30 are hearing back before our pre Nov 30th apps. My daughter has been accepted to Pitt… a true rolling admissions process…she applied end of august, heard within 3 weeks. It sure has brought Pitt higher on her list that she heard so fast. its just a lot farther from home. I can’t wait to read your post that states your daughter was accepted. I will be so happy for you! Further, if our daughters both accepted for UP either summer or fall I would love to try to have them connect on FB as possible roommates. I am sure your daughter is just as positive, respectful and good natured as you present yourself here, and my daughter would be lucky to have a roommate with those family values. Best of luck to all!

@jlhpsu I’ll toss in my appreciation for the attitude, work and information shared by you. My S is in the same boat and you have asked all the questions and provided all the answers. My frustration with the process has been minimized by your considerate and helpful shares. Thanks!

@JudyVegas and @brucemag thanks for the love :slight_smile: I have always just figured that if there was ANYWHERE to vent about the process, it would be here since it’s anonymous and we are all in the same situation. Since my husband and I both went to PSU (UP), there is knowledge that I bring just from visiting many times a year and I try to share that. But from an applicant viewpoint, I haven’t dealt with that in many many years, and back then, it was paper and pen - so I had no idea if someone was notified prior to me or what have you. So, I’m learning, just like everyone. And I am a type A planner and I enjoy the hunt of doing research - so I come across lots of things that I think others may want to know. We also went on two different tours and I asked a ton of questions (annoying my D in the process, lol)…So I share what I find. It’s literally the only ‘control’ I have in a very uncontrollable situation.

We are really nervous here about the outcome because it could go either way - but I do know that whatever happens we will make it work. @JudyVegas if our daughters both end up there, we can definitely connect them! We live really close to Pitt, which is one of the reasons my D didn’t want to go there but she has a few friends going there. Totally different vibe than PSU since Pitt is an urban campus. My D was accepted to Seton Hall’s Physician Assistant program - they only accept 20 students a year but she applied really early and it’s true “rolling” admission. She heard back within 2 weeks. She was offered a great scholarship there as well - but…it’s too far - 6 hours from home.
So, I hope we hear from PSU soon - since I’m trying to plan a graduation party and summer vacation and I can’t do either until we hear back. LOL…see…Type A planner. It’s not always an easy way to live :wink:

@jlhpsu wasn’t aware your D was accepted into Seton’s PA program!! That’s impressive… Is that an accelerated 5 or 6 year program? Reason why I am asking is because my senior at PSU is in the speech pathology program and is now applying to Grad Schools (yes, double the stress with one undergrad and another grad waiting) in a very competitive major that in many cases only takes 20-30 out of thousands of applicants. We are really nervous and hope she gets accepted somewhere since she needs a masters to practice the field. A few of her sorority sisters did undergrad PA and also in same boat. If this is a career she really wants to pursue and SH is an accelerated program, is a good road to take. Avoid the stress of applying Grad schools to an extremely competitive field in a few years from now. Of course the disadvantage is deciding that’s not the path she may want then changing to another major.

@mamahills I just messaged you :slight_smile:

@pinkmd‌ http://sites.psu.edu/weadmit/2015/01/05/were-back-2/

Just if anyone is interested this is the 1 year anniversary of my daughter being accepted into PSU. (I saw it on my Timehop) She applied mid Nov and was not one of those SAT superstars. She applied for summer to increase her chances but was accepted into Fall. (engineering). I promise they are coming!

Hi @Twinmom2014‌ I applied for summer 2015 but am hoping I can get into fall admission and believe I have the stats to do so. If you don’t mind sharing, what we’re your daughter’s stats?

^^^ See your inbox.

Just got off the phone with an admissions counselor who gave me the same usual speech “If we had everything by November 30th, you will have a decision by January 31st”

She did say though that the majority of applicants will hear the 3rd week of this month, so the week of the 19th… I hate this waiting game!!!

My daughter entered PSU SOVA as a freshman in Fall 2013. She got her acceptance around January 11th so hopefully you hear soon. GOOD LUCK!! (Now I’m in the “reviewing your credentials” stage for daughter number 2. The waiting this time around is even harder…)

@ChrisF

I posted a link to last year’s accepted students’ thread a few pages ago (post #242), but I believe it was this week last year when things really picked up steam:

If you met the priority deadline, you’ll know one way or the other by Jan. 31. Aside from that, nobody can tell you anything for certain. You’re just going to have to try to be patient.
