BTW, the only people that posted admittance to SMEAL have very high stats…4.0 and close or over 2000 combined SAT. My son has the GPA but not the SAT…his top was around 1820 one sitting…
Regarding Smeal, friend admitted to UP Summer with 1900SAT, 3.9W GPA. Applied for Fall. I think that’s in the blue on the 2010 bubble chart. High competition this year.
@pinkmd It is the 2010, and it still is very accurate from what I can tell from posts, because it actually gives the GPA/SAT combinations for each of the three “bands” , and it really is about the combo of the two. You can clearly see how someone with a 2200 SAT but a 3.0 will have only a slight chance to get into UP, but someone with a 4.3 and 1550 SATs is in. The legend says that those in the yellow/grey band may require additional review, hence holding up the decision.
My D is solidly in the yellow. But that bubble chart is for fall admission and a composite of majors, right? They haven’t published anything to indicate what is required for summer admission as far as I know. And also, since some majors have higher entrance requirements, you could be in the yellow and get admitted for one major, but denied for another. The bubble chart is just an average of all admitted students.
Since my D was in the yellow, she opted to put summer as an option hoping for the best shot, and she was DUS anyway so that was what she chose as her intended major. I guess time will tell if that worked or not!
Yes, I assume it is for 100% of majors. I also assumed that summer admission is available for the yellow band applicants who they want but who look like they could benefit from a head start. In general, being in the yellow means it could go either way, but never an outright deny (that seems to be reserved for the lower left quadrant). I am hopeful that during this protracted wait someone has been really looking closely at our kids’ information and perhaps those d.e. classes and good senior year grades (if they didn’t throw them away in the mailroom!) will count for something.
No answer here yet…and probably a dumb question,… but If you get the Summer program, do you stay for the fall or stop after summer and restart in Jan?
@HockeyLaxguy If your grades are in good standing after summer session is over, you stay for the Fall.
CC and the bubble chart stress me out so much! In the past 5 years in my private school in NY 16 have gotten in with a B average or lower and only 5 with a B average or lower were denied. I’m wondering if my school has an “in” with admissions as this doesn’t seem consistent with anything else I’ve read.
Well, Penn State does their own calculation of GPAs, from what I understand, so perhaps your school’s B average, @scohen99, gets adjusted higher in comparison to other schools.

@jlhpsu Are you still waiting? I know we’ve been denied, but I keep logging on to check on your outcome. Still pulling for you. I’ve got to deliver the bad news to her this evening, but I have thrown her back into the reevaluate for DUS pile. I didn’t get any type of acknowledgement that they got it, however. Not sure how the re-eval process works.
@wenilau15 My daughter has similar GPA and not super high SATs, plus a sister currently a sophomore at UP and a parent graduate. She was denied yesterday for architectural engineering/engineering.

@PSUGradMom Yes…still waiting. Hoping for a status change tonight…but that’s no different than any other night! I’m sure it will be hard to tell your D that she’s been denied, but also good that you can go right into telling her she’s being re evaluated. My understanding from talking to admissions is that they will start to reevaluate new DUS candidates after all of the decisions have been made for those who applied DUS prior to Nov. 30th. Last year, the re-eval people starting hearing the last week of January, but they seem to be behind this year in notifying people.
I went to my doctor today and they remarked that my blood pressure was really high. They asked if anything has been stressing me out. Gee, ya think? I think I have definitive proof now that Penn State is trying to kill me
@PSUGradMom Last year it seemed like they told re-eval people whether or not they were in right away, sometimes even on the phone. They do seem a bit behind this year though. I have a bad feeling today that my S is going to be denied UP and I’ll have to tell him. If so, he’s going to try to get re-eval’ed for summer, but still the initial rejection hurts. Wait, wait & wait some more.
Has anyone had a status change or a decision who applied to a program in arts and sciences?
Just got in today to the College of Nursing! I applied early October and am an OOS student.
On another note, should I send in an SAT score that is higher than the one that I got in with? It’s a difference of 180 pts and I want to know if I would be eligible for any scholarships or offered any $? My new score isn’t really that high…but just wondering if the school would want to see it.
There seem to be lots of acceptances on Twitter, hopefully they’ll update sooner today for people who still haven’t heard anything
Denied for summer session for HHD, just emailed to get reevaluated for DUS. I’m feeling really sad because penn state is my dream school but good luck to everyone still waiting to hear!
Is anyone emailing about reevaluation getting an email response back?
