I am currently attending a community college in Southern California with hopes to transfer to to UCI or UCLA, maybe UCSD, but they require calculus to enter and i don't want to take it at my CC.

I am currently taking as many prerequisites classes for premed as possible at my school, because I've heard time and time again that it is unwise to fulfill premedical requirements at a junior college.

Anyways, i wanted to know how difficult it would be to complete my psychology major and premedical requirements and still graduate in 4 years.

That’s a myth. Taking medical school prerequisites at a CC is fine. As long as you do well on your MCAT and your upper level science and math courses at the 4 -year university you’ll be fine. The med schools will only question you if you do well at a CC but bomb at the 4 year.

the chances of graduating a UC in four years with psych going into premed if pretty low, most ppl usually take 5 years to graduate (for most majors). Its had to get the classes u need in these times, and sometimes u just need to slow down make sure u got everything on track, so that u can get into med school or do w/e ur tryna do.

I agree with CalBearGuy. I’m a Psych major fulfilling premed requirements too…may even be a phil/psych double major depending on where I go. It will probably take me a total of 5 years, but if you’re a first year and already know what you want to major in, and get going on those med school prereqs, then you very well could graduate in 4.

Curious, are you trying to become a psychiatrist or another specialist or just regular M.D.?

i do want to be a psychiatrist! I never had any interests in life until i found that i enjoy talking to just about anyone and getting them to open up on just about any subject. So, i decided to pursue Psychiatry. I don’t mind doing 5 years but… Time is money.

We’re very similar I think. I want to be a child psychiatrist. I feel so much empathy and compassion for those kids that haven’t always had the easiest path and want to try and turn things around. If I could help out just some and make their lives easier and better, then that would be enough for me.

I also like to talk with people and understand/empathize with others (more or less what I wrote my personal statement on) I’ll PM it to u if you want to check it out. I can’t believe I found another psych major that’s doing premed requirements, finally lol. Thought I was more or less alone here.
