Psychology Major at UCLA, UCB, UCSD

Hi I am a rising senior and college apps are just around the corner. I am planning on majoring in psychology but I’m afraid that because it is a popular major and extremely impacted that I won’t be able to get into those schools.

I have a 4.43 GPA (weighted) and 3.9 GPA (unweighted). I have taken 5 AP classes so far and plan to take 5 next year as well. I have also taken psychology at a community college (I passed with an A) over the summer and am currently taking government.

I plan on taking the SAT once more in the fall and currently have a 1770. With my test prep, I am expecting a 1900+ On my retake but that is not guaranteed.

My extracurriculars include:
Varsity volleyball (since freshmen year)
President of Mock trial
Dance (ballet and contemporary)
Dance captain
Volleyball captain
Volunteering at an Exploratorium for 3+ years
Volunteering as a camp counsoler for children (100+)
Internship with a law firm
Intern with an environmental group
President of the French club
tutoring middle school students

You need to calculate your UC GPA: http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Your unweighted GPA looks very competitive but an SAT score around 1900 would still be to low for UCLA/UCB/UCSD. You need to aim for around a 2000+ for UCSD and around 2100+ for UCLA/UCB. A 1900 SAT score would make you competitive for UCD/UCI/UCSB. Make sure you have some solid matches and safeties on your list and Good Luck.

I encourage you to apply but, I don’t think a 1900 SAT will do the trick.

Be sure to apply broadly to keep you options open.

You may want to apply to the Cal states and have some back-ups.
