Any current students majoring in psychology? Can you please tell us prospective students about the classes you are enrolled in? (Ex. Difficulty level of the class, difficulty of getting the classes needed for the major, jobs, internships, and anything else that you think will be helpful (advice?))

Classes: you won’t really get into true psych material until your upper divs, and you can’t take upper divs until you’re a junior (or a sophomore finished with statistics, psyc60). Getting into the psyc cores are easy, but you have zero chance of getting into those popular psyc electives until your senior year (or if you have priority enrollment). Classes aren’t particularly difficult, though it certainly depends on the professor and the type of material. Some courses require more memorization.

Jobs/internships/etc: Many psyc majors study psychology in conjunction with something else. Psych and biology (pre-health), psych and economics (business/accounting oriented), and psych and education minors (education oriented) are common ones. Others study psych for the clinical aspect - I know people that want to be child psychologists, marriage counselors or social workers. And there are people that want to do psych PhD programs - my boyfriend wants to get a PhD in industrial organizational psychology, for example.

The thing about psychology is it’s a very broad field, which is both good and bad but always requires specialization of some sort. Most (if not all) psych-specific jobs require additional schooling after undergrad. If that doesn’t sound appealing and you still want to be a psych major, you have to be prepared to work in a field that isn’t related at all to what you’re studying in college.
