Psychology Summer Program for Rising 11th Grader

Next summer my son will be a rising 11th grader. He has developed a strong interest in psychology, and his upper school does not offer courses in it. Would you recommend any summer courses? I know it's way early, and he might be interested in something entirely different by next summer -- but I wanted to ask now because many of you have done your research for this summer. Any suggestions? He is CTY-qualified, but I think will be too old by next summer. Within 200 miles of NYC preferred, but all suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

I don't know of any psychology programs, but would recommend doing a google search for "high school" summer program psychology. I'm sure you can find a lot of programs.

CTD at Northwestern near Chicago or Case University in Cleveland: www.ctd.northwestern.edu/summer/

Its just like CTY but it goes all the way through high school. Both offer AP Psychology in 3 weeks. SAT CR >= 510 or ACT R >=24.

CTD looks interesting. Is it fun too? He works hard during the school year, so I think it's also important to have some fun. Can they take the AP test right after the course?

D had fun at Northwestern. She went on trips like Second City, Chicago Symphony, and fireworks on July 4. She made great friends. Others went to Wrigley and such. Kids within the same course live together and get really tight. High school kids are given a fair degree of freedom and get to hang out in Evanston as long as they have a buddy. They do work pretty hard on their classes though - a whole AP course in 3 weeks is not for everybody. Overall, she felt it was worthwhile.

Unfortunately AP test is only offered in May.

^Darn--you'd really have to review during the year in order to retain the information for 11 months.
