Public bathroom in college dorms?

Really? Then it will be so hard to take a bath. Yeah, I am a little shy.

Your dorm might not have communal bathrooms. Not all do. Rarely, some dorms have a bath per room. Usually if it's not communal, you will be sharing a bathroom with a group of people in a suite. There is some privacy. The showers have curtains. Don't make too big a deal of this...I'm sure you'll adjust accordingly.

You can check with what dorms have communal and which don't, then apply accordingly.

I don't know of any schools that don't at least offer you a curtain in the shower. Just get a nice, thick pair of sandals and after a few weeks it won't even bother you anymore.

I remember the first time I went home for Christmas break and showered without wearing my sandals. It made me feel so naked. :(

I've had to use similar showers while at a camp. I was nervous about it too, but hopefully in college, people will be mature about it. It is not like prision showers where you stand there naked in front of each other and hope to not drop the soap (do girls worry about that too?), it is one little shower stall that you have all to yourself. It's not like anyone can see you while you are in them. There is usually one curtain (a thick fabric that cannot be seen thru) that you undress behind and leave your things so they don't get wet. Then there is another curtain (plastic this time that isn't see-thru) that you shower behind. It's really not so bad. I'm just worried about the nasty germs and everything in there, but I will get over it.

What part is it that you are having a problem with?

^When I was at SDSU (San Diego) last summer, that's exactly how it was.

The only bad part was that there were 40 girls, 2 showers and we all had to be places at the same time. Do the math.

But as long as everyone's mature about it (which they were) and doesn't take uber long showers (which some of them did), it's no big deal.

HGFM: The advantage of college, is even if there are 40 girls and 2 showers, everyone has different schedules and takes showers at different times. I was always a morning shower person in high school, now I take some showers in the morning, some in the afternoon, some at night. Depends on if I've just worked out, if I have to be at work at 5 AM, or if I can sleep in and get up at 10 AM.

Most dorms at my school, this is purely a reasonable guess, is that there are about 9 or 10 showers for every 70 residents or 7 people/shower. My best friend's dorm her freshman year had 72 people on her floor, and 10 showers. I was lucky enough to get a suite w/ a bathroom in my room, but not all places have this option. My dorm next year (upperclass dorm) has 2 single rooms that share a bathroom, so it'll be really easy and really convenient.

I actually found when I was sharing an apartment with two other guys I found I was getting blocked out of taking a shower when I wanted to much more often than when I lived in a dorm with 28 other guys on the hall!

^Oh, I know. :) It just sucked while we were there.

The school I'm attending next year has no communal bathrooms...the most you have to share with is 7 other people besides yourself.

I guess I'm lucky that it ends up being 4 people to a shower at the college I'll be at next fall. At least we won't have to clean our own bathrooms! ;)

the poster talked about taking a bath...not a shower....not baths is college...or not many anyway....

Some people say "take a bath" and just mean bathe, in whatever way (usually shower) at least, that's something people where I live, including myself, say. I'll say, "I need to take a bath" when really I'm going to take a shower, I just mean I need to bathe.

I think that crossed most people's minds at one point, but I highly doubt that's what the OP meant....

Hey, I go to Vandy, which it seems like that's where you want to go. If you are admitted you will be in the Commons which is absolutely beautiful!!! Anyways, the whole bathroom thing is not that big of a deal. All the floors are same sex so its not like you will be sharing the bathrooms with the opposite sex or anything. If you have any questions about anything regarding life here at Vandy, send me a PM!

"All the floors are same sex so its not like you will be sharing the bathrooms with the opposite sex or anything."

Dang I was hoping it was like American Pie.

communal showers really aren't bad.
At my school we don't have curtains, the showers are set up more like bathroom stalls, with a locking door. on my hall we have 3 showers for 24 people, so 8 per shower, but the way schedules work I've very rarely even been showering at the same time as someone else.

10 people share 2 showers here in my dorm at Lafayette...never had any problems yet. Next year I'm moving into a dorm with 9 people and 2 lockable showers/combined toilet on a floor coed by room (meaning, next to me there will be girls living / we share the shower), but it shouldn't be that much of a problem.

At the college I was at over the summer, it was this huge area with benches and then individual showers. So that meant that because there was no "two curtain" system, you had to undress outside of the showers and then get in a shower... It was relatively stupid. Ah well. None of us were traumatized and of course it was a single sex bathroom (not coed).

And...

Haha, speaking of co-ed bathrooms... Vassar has 'em! And it's my top choice, but apparently it's not a huge deal. I'm not worried about it.

My alma mater, Humboldt, has two residence halls with actual bathtubs (as well as showers). Of course, there are modesty curtains! And girls from other halls would actually go up to the hill to have the luxury of a real bath!

most modern dorms i.e. built around 1950 and up are probably modern enough where its not prison style and u have somewhat private stalls. remember to buy cheap shower slippers. after my first year in my dorm, my nails and feet were so messed up............................. ........and they still are.........
