I want to double major in theatre/acting (my main interest) and film production (primarily screenwriting). I also like creative writing.
I don't want to audition or anything (so primarily BA curriculums I guess). I'm transferring and applying for fall admission.

I know not all public schools are cheap, and not all private schools are expensive. I've found a few private schools that I really like, except they're quite costly. I'd like to pick out a few much cheaper schools (net cost- definitely under 40K, prefer <30k, 20k) that still have good programs and connections to the real world.
However, I welcome any other school recommendations regardless of their sticker price.

My list so far includes: Bard, Sarah Lawrence, Vassar, University of Southern California, SUNY Purchase [they have a BA theatre too], maybe University of Miami.
(I like UCLA, but you must audition and you can't double major in the dept. :(

If it's not obvious from my list...I like California, the NY area, and schools located in/near urban theatre hubs

University of Michigan- Ann Arbor
Penn State
Skidmore
University of California- San Diego
NYU
Syracuse

Very transfer friendly, fantastic location, possibly not affordable enough: Columbia College Chicago. Happykid adored this place (Theater Tech/Design transfer applicant), but the money didn’t work out for us.

I will ask the obvious. You want to go into acting but you do not want to audition?
You should think long and hard about this.
In the meantime, here is a thread on non audition BFA’s in acting:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/theater-drama-majors/1177128-non-audition-bfas-3.html

What is your home state?

U of Arizona meets your criteria.

musicamusica,
I don’t have the time and resources to go through an audition process. I did that last year for schools, but ended up changing my educational path. Besides, usually schools that require auditions are bfa/conservatories and don’t want you to major in something else.

I live in Maryland.
I’m already applying to UMD-College Park (possibly going this spring), but I want to expand my options. And I hate Maryland…

Did you apply to Towson? If you haven’t checked out that theatre department, do so. Acting requires an audition, but many choose to major in Theatre Studies and take all of their departmental electives in performance topics instead. Read about it here: [Theatre Studies Track - Undergraduate Programs - Department of Theatre Arts - College of Fine Arts & Communication - Towson University](http://www.towson.edu/theatre/undergrad/theatrestudies.asp)

My parents want me to apply to towson…i don’t really like it for various reasons, but i’m aware that they have a bfa program and all and might end up applying as a safety. I prefer College Park to Towson.
