I know that most public universities have few scholarships for out-of-state students. However, I have seen some that have amazingly good ones, like University of Alabama, University of Oklahoma and University of Arizona. So I'm just curious-- what other schools have good out-of-state scholarships?

Michigan State is pretty good if you qualify for the Honors College and/or Professorial Assistantship.

Look at University of South Carolina - nice merit scholarships for OOS students with good grades and at least a 28 ACT.

The University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) is also very generous with high-stat OOS students (many full-tuition scholarships from the Honors College for OOS students). Also, Pitt has many engineering scholarships which stack on top of the full-tuition scholarships for high-stat students (1450 SAT Math/CR and above).

The University of Delaware is pretty generous to high-stats applicants.

University of New Mexico has the Amigo Scholarship for OOS students—gives you in-state tuition (in state tuition cost is $2,904.60/semester) plus $200/yr for transportation.

Requires : 23 ACT (1060 SAT) and 3.5 GPA or 26 ACT (1170 SAT) and 3.0 GPA.

Other higher value scholarships are available for better stats.

You can rule out Texas, unfortunately. UT has really cut down on merit aid to ANY students. It seems very short-sighted to me.

What are your stats?

What is your major?

How much merit do you need?

Arizona State University has the new american univ. scholarship, and I think they give up to full tuition if you are nation merit.

^^
My unweighted GPA is 4.0 (4.45 weighted). I am ranked 1 in my class of around 500. My ACT is 33. I’ve done band and swim team (with some leadership) throughout high school and have about 100 volunteer hours. I am from New Mexico and there is a chance I’ll get national merit, so scholarships for that are good.

I want to major in computer or electrical engineering.

Since there are some good schools in my state that I can go to for free, I will probably only go out-of-state at a place with very good merit scholarships, just because that makes the most sense to me. Right now, I’m just trying to make sure I’m not missing any great opportunities. Thanks for the help!

U South Carolina seems to have reduced its scholarships… :(
