My impression is that most users of this cc are in private high school. Am I wrong?

I go to a public, although it's better than most privates :P.

i am not i go to townsend harris high school in NY

its BETTER THAN STUY!!!!!!!!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I go to public. Private schools really aren't that great as they seem. Instead of spending all that money for a private school, why not have the sense to move to a city with a top-notch public school system? What really gets to me is that my cousin was in a top school district (nationally ranked in top 100) yet my aunt and uncle chose to send him to a private school in the middle of his education. That right there does not make any sense.

I went to a parochial school because my parents weren't comfortable with the quality of the eduacation in our local public schools. I have to say it was one of the best decisions we have ever made as a family. Our public schools were overcrowded while my high school was small and even teachers whom I had never had knew my name. I got a great education, got into a great college, and was guided well by the teachers. Many of my teachers were inspirational, in fact my chem teacher is the one who has inspired me to become a chem major. I think I would have done fine at our local public schools, but I was allowed to shine at my high school.

I personally think that private school is a waste of money. The only reason why parents send their kids to private schools is so the kids can go to Harvard when they graduate. But I hear all these success stories about kids from the ghettos getting into the top colleges because they studied hard, even though their high schools weren't exactly great.

atomicfusion, sure, it'd be a good idea to move to a better school district, but what if a family is comfortable where they already live (i.e. friends, work location, etc.)? Perhaps your aunt and uncle decided that their son would do better in private school.

ls47xx, that is not the only reason parents send children to private school. Some send them to schools that share their religious affiliation. Some parents and students, like myself, prefer the smaller, more intimate setting of private schools. I would have done fine in public school, but I enjoy the atmosphere of private school, where I'm not just a face in the crowd.

You're wrong. Most of us are in public.

I don't know. I guess the reason why I condemn private schools so much is because 3 of my best friends are leaving me to go to one.

but aren't people in private schools missing by not going to public schools cause they aren't getting the "real" high school xpernce....

it seems as if people like going to private schools just so some teacher will know your name.

whatever happened to earning your respek

You get a 'real' highschool experience at a Private school, in fact I'd venture to say that for some it's a better experience. Most private schools and public schools dont really have a leg up on eachother in terms of college admission, but there are several private schools with 'connections' with top colleges, where attendance of the private school is a definite leg up.

by "real" high school xperence i mean stuff like fights, drugs, sports, etc.

proton, you're kidding, right?

you know, they say once you get to college, college just isn't about studying and stuff. they say its about living with people and compromising and dealing with people and all that since your away from home.

i look at high school the same way. if you go encounter obstacles it will make you that much wiser.

we have sports...
fights and drugs i can do without, thank you.

Exactly film, too bad my school still has its fair share of the other two.

it's not about having the "sense" to move, it's about whether or not it's feasible....and for those who go to private schools in their area, it usually isn't.

Lol the arrogance of private school kids shines through.

We aren't talking about private schools vs. ghetto public schools, we are talking about private schools vs. top notch public schools (or just "good" public schools in the worst case on CC). If you went to a top public school then you would realize your ignorant views of what it's like are completely wrong.

Right now all I see is the arrogance of a public schooler, lol.

The point is, not all public schools are top-notch, and it's not always possible to attend such a school.
