Publication question for biology graduate school

Hello all,

I will be applying to a molecular biology PhD program in the fall--US programs. During my early undergrad, I did some research on the history and medical ethics of mental disease treatment that resulted in one (perhaps two) publications in a medical journal. Since then, I have done some proper biology research and have some nice material to put on my CV.

The question is--will publications in another academic area enhance my application at all? Or will admissions committees just look at it and say "well, it's not even science"?

Thanks!

Yes, because regardless of the area, it shows that you know how to take a research project from the data collection/analysis stage through to writing a scientific research article and publishing. Also, your paper(s) are related to health biology in some way. You should always include those 2 publications on your CV!
