So I'm a senior in high school this year and I've written/published a relativley short (211 pages) non-fiction book. Now the book itself doesn't get released until the beginning of February, but starting next week there will be a website for my book announcing it along with it's release date. Should I include this on my college application? And if I do, how do you think this would be looked upon by admissions?

In a day and age when anyone who feels like it can whip up 200+ pages and self-publish them with Kindle/Amazon, writing a book is just another EC. However the whole writing, editing, and getting published thing could be fodder for a great essay.

How many other high school students have published books? I would venture to guess not as many as happymomof1 thinks there are – so it would definitely make you stand out in the crowd. Include your published book in your list of EC’s and provide a link to the website. Good luck to you!

There’s a vast difference between self publishing a book (my HS soph did it for a class assignment last year) and having some company invest their capital in your work and publish it on your behalf. One is a mark of today’s technology. The other is indeed a rarity and worthy of crowing about.
