Purdue CS vs Stats/CS at UIUC?

I wanna either go to UIUC or Purdue and do CS. Say I’m planning to start off at UIC in CS and transfer into CS at one of these schools in these respective programs, which is a better investment for my future?

Purdue’s CS is in the College of Science and Stats and CS at U of I is in the College of LAS.

CS overall at UIUC is #5 in the nation and Purdue is #20 so not a HUGE difference.

Cost and debt at each?

Based on internal transfer criteria, UIUC is probably much harder to get into the CS major.

@ucbalumnus Haven’t gotten into U of I yet, and got into Purdue a week or so ago, but I’m not sure if I got any $ yet. Thanks for the advice!

UIUC is probably the better option if you can afford it, and you get accepted directly to CS. CS is super competitive at UIUC. Additionally, Computer Science and Stats is different from majoring in Computer Science (which is in engineering at UIUC). If you do not get directly admitted to CS at UIUC, it is probably better to go to Purdue rather than taking the high risk of transferring into CS at UIUC.
