So I got accepted into Purdue’s College of Science for Computer Science and also got accepted into U of I’s Division of General Studies and I’m also considering majoring either in Computer Science and Computer Engineering. I’m stuck between 2 options:
- Go to Purdue and take the required courses freshman year and possibly transfer into computer engineering depending upon how I handle computer science.
- Go to U of I, take the required gen-eds. for computer science or computer engineering ( which are very similar ), and then transfer into that major.
I’m a bit in favor of choosing U of I because they’re ranked better but I’m worried it may be too competitive compared to Purdue’s Engineering college. What would you recommend?
Ranking means nothing in this case IMO. So you would take the chance of not getting into CS or CE at Illinois rather than go with a sure thing? Is there a cost difference?
oh good heavens…this is a no-brainer as long as cost isn’t an issue.
Purdue accepted you for your major. UIUC didn’t.
To look at rankings for these two schools is just silly…SILLY!
Well cost isn’t an issue, but the thing is that at Purdue I got accepted into CS, but after taking a CS class this year, it doesn’t seem like the most enjoyable major to pursue at Purdue. While at U of I, I could get a better feel for either or while I’m taking my gen eds, and the classes required for CS and CE are quite similar.
Transferring in to CS at UofI is very difficult.
Transferring in to CE at UofI is only slightly less difficult.
I don’t know how hard it is to switch to CE at PU.
As of right now, I’m looking more so into transferring into CE at either school and you’ve hit the nail on the head for UofI, but Purdue’s website is so scattered, I can’t figure it out for them.
