My son got admitted into Purdue and UMD CS. We did not visit either college due to COVID - 19. We are out of state for both colleges, however UMD is offering 50K scholarship for 4 years, still with purdue’s low out of state fee the final cost is coming to be the same. Which one would be a better choice for my son? He is very social and would want good college experience. But as parents we are looking at more advanced academics, internship and job opportunities. Please help.
These schools felt very similar to my D. Very career readiness focused, wonderful facilities, similarly sized campuses, etc…
I don’t think your son can go wrong at either school.
Does he have a location preference? Are either schools within a drive or will he need to fly?
My D choose Purdue and is finishing up her second year of engineering if you have any Purdue specific questions.
Thank you for your reply. We are an hour drive from UMD but my son like Purdue campus. I was thinking about job opportunities in D.C Metro area.
Smaller employers in the DC metro area are more likely to recruit at Maryland rather than Purdue, because they have less need and resources to do travel recruiting. Purdue would have the advantage with smaller employers in its region.
Don’t underestimate the easy of getting back and forth to campus, especially right now. Being a quick drive away vs a flight can make a world of difference even in the best of times for breaks and such.
