I am planning on attending the Purdue STEP program next summer. does anybody have any feedback from attending or have had siblings, children, etc. who attended it?

YES, do this! It is a great way to see if you will like engineering. My S did this July 2011. $350 (or whatever it was) is a small, but invaluable investment to ‘try on’ engineering for a week. it will confirm whether you want to go into engineering, or turn you off to it completely. when you are spending $40k er year, spending 1 week at summer camp is critical to understanding whether you are making the right decision. most other reputable schools have a summer week-long program, so be sure and check them out as well. purdue is absolutely miserable in the summer heat, tho, and the dorms they house you in are NOT air conditioned…when they recommend bringing a fan, believe me, bring THREE! :)

my son went this past summer and enjoyed the week. He does not want engineering – he’s going into computer science – but he most enjoyed meeting the other kids who were also looking at Purdue as well as spending a week there. It did not sway him toward engineering, although he was very impressed with the aerospace program. The cary Quad dorm was awful and over 115 degrees some nights without air conditioning.

He’s been accepted at Purdue this year; no idea if they track how often kids visit campus. It helped him figure out if he would like Purdue.

Good luck!
