putting tennis camp on apps??

every year for the past 5 summers and the next 2 i have spent or will spend nearly the entire summer at a tennis training academy in florida. it's technically not a camp because it's like a year round boarding school type deal but i just go for the summers due to the lack of quality academics there. however, it's not something i would usually consider putting on my college apps because although it is highly selective and such a great experience with meeting new people, i always thought that it would be the equivalent to adcoms as putting something like "i went to the beach all summer" on my apps. on top of that, its ridiculously expensive and not at all academic related so i dont know what adcoms would think of that. the only reason i bring this up is that because of my spending my summers 300 miles away from home i haven't been involved in much of anything else for any of these summers. which means i haven't gone to summer programs at colleges or youth leadership conferences or any of these other great programs i keep hearing about. i also haven't been able to become in service projects such as habitat for humanity over the summers which is something i've always wanted to do. it's also not as if i've made up for this during the school year as i spend nearly every weekend traveling to tournaments..

basically do you think i should include tennis "camp" as one of my activities as a sort of explanation for why i haven't done much of anything else (over the summer at least, i try to be more involved once school starts) or should i just forget about it?

Absolutely put it in the application! I think it shows a passion for one of your extracurricular activities. You may not want to call it a "camp", though, unless you call it a "training camp", which gives a better idea of what it is. You should also name it specifically, especially if it is well-known.

My d went to dance programs over the summer; we put those down to show her commitment to dance. You have the same commitment to tennis - definitely show it.

If you play tennis at a high level, you could talk about your passion for tennis and mention that you spent 5 summers at these tennis camps in Florida.

Its not an explantion why you havent done any activities, it is ur activity. Why would you not put down something u spent many summers on

ahh dangit, I forgot to list the EC camps i went to...

ugh state orchestra down the drain...

I think it's always important to list your activities and interests. However, have you ever taken your skills that you learned in camp and continued throughout the year with high school tennis or other tennis competitions? The fact that you've competed is going to mean a lot more than just attending a tennis camp. State competition or ranking would demonstrate you REAL passion and commitment to tennis.

baghdatis- yeah i compete in tournaments nearly every weekend and play on my high school team but i'm not sure what theyre going to think since i don't plan to play in college and haven't planned on contacting the coach or anything

and yeah guys tennis IS my activity whcih is why i'll put tournaments and stuff as ECs but you don't think they'll look at camp as just like a waste of time and money since it costs so much and i'm not even pursuing tennis in college so probably assume i'm not very good
