Q about "Academic Honors" section...

"Briefly describe any scholastic distinctions or honors you have won beginning with ninth grade."

Am I supposed to do this in paragraph form, or kinda just listing with a brief description of each? I'm not sure what I am supposed to do....Anyone know?

Also, any ideas for the Academic Interest essays? It says talk about my "intellectual interests"...can anyone give me an example of this?

Thanks so much if you respond. I really do appreciate it.

you write "see attached" and they will look at your resume (you should have one)

I wrote mine out in paragraph form...

I listed mine with a brief description of each.

The way I did it for Cornell was...

Grade 9:
-Honor 1 (if it wasn't a clear honor or they might not understand it i gave a small explanation)
-Honor 2 (same as honor 1 and if it was a big award I would put like how many out of how many receive the award)
...and so on for the other grades. On my other apps which I didn't have to send I did it a better way

Activity/Honor:
Grade(s):
Position (if applicable):
Description of award/activity:

I find that way very neat and laid out. I also put the awards in the order they meant most to me, and same for the activities.

I hope you choose a decision you like.

I wrote mine in the exact same way psquared did, listed by grade with an explanation in parenthesis.

would a letter in marching band be considered 'academic'?

isn't there a section for this on common app to put grades honors etc.

IIRC, its one of the short answer blanks. If there isn't enough room, you can continue it in the additional information section as well.

for other awards that wouldn't be considered "academic" (like band awards), I listed them in the section at the end for any additional information. I'm not sure if it's on the paper application, but it's definitely on the online app.

gotcha thanks!
