Q for current students

I agree …bearcats your constant negativity is getting highly annoying and I now just skip all of your posts. Alexandre you are waaaay to accomodating to this person. I think he makes up most of what he says just for shock value…well I for one am just not buying any of it…next!!

^like i care about what you think… next!!

btw, footballfan21, whoever you are, I am so honored that you decide to start a second account just to comment on what I said.

I am not accommodating littlefalls. bearcats’ views are legitimate. I do not agree with them, but I am sure some would, and I like the fact that prospective students can come on this forum and see a balanced view of our university.

"This said, if you remove the bottom third of the student body at Michigan, you would have an Ivy League-type student body. "

That is exactly why I think Michigan should make the incoming freshman class signficiantly smaller

That is one point that you and I agree on bearcats. I have been saying for some time that Michigan should have no more than 20,000 undergrads…Ideally, between 16,000 and 18,000.

i’m a 2nd semester freshman and i am so glad i decided to come here.

well, i always wanted to come here, but clearly i knew what was best for myself.

i’m in-state, graduated top of my class, and came into the college of engineering. i’m not going to lie, it’s still hard to swallow not being on top, and not getting a’s on every exam…but i am still so glad i am going to a school that challenges me. my friend is at another big 10 school in this state, and while she is extremely intelligent (national merit scholar), she tells me she is “screwed” for her calc 2 exam she hasn’t studied for and then gets an a back. i graduated high school for a reason… to move onto big and better things.

i declared my major the other day, and tomorrow i will meet with my program advisor for the first time. i am planning on getting involved in research my sophomore year. i really want to get the most out of this school and the fact that michigan engineering is top notch.

also, i love the social scene. i’m not gonna lie, i like to blow off some steam every once in awhile and have fun. i definitely think its a good balance here (again, my friend at that other big 10 school says sometimes the partying around her is too much. not as many people take school as seriously).

also, i like that people aren’t overly competitive. i like that my classmates will help me when i get confused with C++. overall, i enjoy the michigan difference :)

second account? My goodness have you developed a complex! Amazing the ego one develops after a few sassy internet posts. No doubt you looked into my post history looking for something to use against me. What you probably failed to account for is that not everyone airs their insecurities throughout the internet (a concept you find baffling, I am sure). No, I have learned to hold my tongue in the presence of ignorance – it tends to react like gas to a fire. I have poked around these forums for a few months and decided to make an account because of your exceedingly childish posts. I strongly suggest you gain some life experience kiddo. Taking a few intro econ courses and getting a big head is dangerous. But I guess you’ll just have to figure that one out on your own ;)

Okay, I will defend bearcats on this one even if he doesn’t believe me about the value of collegiality (including as a successful leadership trait  Many people will observe you eating, frequently, and will form opinions about your background and your capability based on how well informed you are on etiquette and how socially graceful you are. And it’s not exactly elitist, though it sounds that way. It’s more about caring enough about the people with which you dine to respect their traditions and social conventions. And it is not exclusively a ‘European table manners’ issue either – in a global world, one does well to immerse oneself in the customs of those with whom they wish to do business.

So I get what he means, but the way he’s explaining it sounds more elitist than practical. It is both practical and courteous – and those features are often lacking in students who have not been exposed to same. Which doesn’t make them dumb – just maybe a little guileless.

Bumping this up to get some more opinions.

Bearcats-we have a competitive football team. The game against Indiana was very competitive. /sarcasm

“Bumping this up to get some more opinions.”

I have seen no improvement in dining etiquette. We all still eat like Midwesterners.

Seriously, ask a specific question.

Does it suck going to Michigan while the Wolverines are terrible at every sport [that matters]?

400 level class that hands out all A- or A’s? What class is that? It sounds great, but what st eh point of having a class everyone and skip and get an A in though o_O

polsci 489…easiest 3 credit class ever

“Does it suck going to Michigan while the Wolverines are terrible at every sport [that matters]?”

Michigan just won the CCHA tournament, so they don’t suck at every sport. They are now invited to the NCAA championship tournament. Hockey is huge around here and it does matter!

Michigan has a better sports program than any of the other top 30 schools.

pt92, first of all, Michigan is not “terrible” in any sport. In Hockey and Football, Michigan is always very strong. The Football program has had two tough seasons (and should have another average season or two before returning to form), but the program is still very highly regarded. Baskebtall is recovering from a very bad decade, but we are still a couple of seasons from becoming contenders.

Bearcats…your use of the R word shows your true self…your parents must be so proud!

Oh B-cats, is that the class taught by Sam Bernstein’s son? o_O I remember people talking about that a few months ago…

"Michigan has a better sports program than any of the other top 30 schools. "

hmm Stanford won director’s cup 15 straight years, which is the award for the best Division I collegiate athletics program.

You could easily make a case for the following top 30 schools being better than Michigan
USC, UCLA, UNC, Duke, Texas, Notre Dame

Yes Yosup, taught by richard bernstein.

littlefalls, I could give a flying shyt about your liberal PC crap. If someone is ■■■■■■■■, he is ■■■■■■■■, no point sugarcoating. Remember, Rahm “dead-fish chest poke in the shower” Emmanuel, yea the white house chief of staff you know…called the group of rational Democrat opposing obamacare “F–ing ■■■■■■■■”. If it is acceptable at the White House, it is certainly acceptable at CC. If it is so inappropriate, the anointed one should have fired him.

““F—ing ■■■■■■■■,” Mr. Emanuel scolded the group, according to several participants. He warned them not to alienate lawmakers whose votes would be needed on health care and other top legislative items.” - source: Wallstreet Journal
