Child is currently a freshman. U of Wash no longer offers a student health insurance plan unless you are international. They take health insurance only at the student health services but will not take kaiser. I was told they will see if ill x1 but my kid was unable to go get a flu shot there since he has kaiser.
What have other people done? The head of the student health service told me to sign them up for Obamacare. I don't think this is possible since he already has insurance from the family until 26.
Has this been a problem for anyone else? I just don't want them in an area for 4 years where they have to be cautious about getting health care.

A flu shot costs 30 at any pharmacy, most of which will take Kaiser. I believe signing up under the affordable care act requires a life changing event, and I don’t believe going to a college that does not take your insurance qualifies. Can they go to a local UC or minute clinic that takes your insurance? Can they pay cash and get reimbursement from Kaiser?

Kind of late, but I saw this, and group health is the equivalent of Kaiser up here (I think Kaiser owns it). The same problem comes up that UW won’t take group health. I’m fairly certain that a group health will accept Kaiser though-- At least as a group health insurance holder I can use Kaiser when out of the area. The closest major group health campuses are in Bellevue and Capitol Hill. Both are close to UW and are accessible from buses that run from the u district.
