QAS Writing Problems

Here we go again! The hardest part of the SAT.

Plants grown for/u their flowers should be treated with/u a low-nitrogen fertilizer because excessive nitrogen promotes/u the growth of leaves at the expense of flowers . No error (E)

My gut feeling was no error, because "promotes the growth of leaves at the expense of flowers" sounded right. Why is this parallel? I'd appreciate if someone could offer a grammatical explanation.

Opposite to /u most people I know, Annie, a good photographer herself, (B) actually enjoys seeing/u the photographs that her friends take on their /u vacations. No error (E)

Choice (A) sounds wrong, but I couldn't find a reason for it so I put E. The answer was A.

Not very particular in/u nesting sites, (B) house wrens may nest/u in birdhouses, mailboxes, building crevices -- even in the pockets of/u hanging laundry. No error. (E)

Answer is A. No idea why.

Thank you in advance.

Why isn’t the first one parallel? Its growth of x at the expense of y.
Opposite can’t be used to describe personalities
Particular in isn’t the correct idiom. Its particular about.

one doesn’t say “opposite to” one says “unlike” when talking about the comparison of humans…

Are these questions from a recent sat?

D… expense of the flowers growth. incorrect comparison

Gertrude is right, or at least generally right, apparently, it has to be unlike or something…idk why though
3.A. incorrect idiom. i believe it has to be “of”… i would have gotten that wrong if i didn’t see the answer.
