Qs about using AP Credits & labs

I'm pre-med, and I took AP bio last year and got a 5. Should I not take courses the AP credit will get me out of or still take it as a refresher?

Assuming I take Biol 201, will I have to take biol 2030 (the lab course)? On the requirement page for bio majors, it lists each to be 3 credits. By taking both, do I get 6 credits and fulfill my science area requirement?

I saw somewhere that most students take 4 or 5 classes. Do the class + lab count as two? (dumb question? I'm so confused)

For Chem 141, under the prerequisite it says:

Corequisite: CHEM 141L, 142L or CHEM 181L, 182L.

What does that mean?

Thank you so much!

search for pre med threads… you will be surprised to find out ap credit does not typically count for pre med requirements as far as med schools are concerned

class+lab count as 2, you need 12 credits between 2 departments altogether though (which you’ll definitely get being premed)

it means you have to take a lab at the same time

thanks for your help!

follow-up questions:

Will I be able to use the credits if I will be taking more challenging biol courses? I read some threads that said I could but wasn’t completely sure…

so taking CHEM 141 means I have to take 141L AND 142L or just one of the two?

yes you can definitely do that
2/3. You take 141 + 141L, then 142+142L (now 1410+1411, 1420+1421)

Thanks! You’re so helpful :D

For chemistry, the 40’s series is regular and the 80’s series in honors. The 80’s classes are ONLY open to people who got a 4 or 5 on the AP Chem exam.

You will get credit for the bio class, 201, but not the lab, 203. The class is 3 credits, the lab is 2. Typically neither are taken until second year, and I would recommend taking both lab and lecture.

Generally, you should expect to take the lab for EVERY class in which you enroll. Labs are designated various ways:

The lab for 1400 might be called 1401.
The lab for 140 (same class as 1400, different numbering system) might be called 140L.
The lab for 180 might be 1801, 180L, OR 140L, depending on whether or not the honors kids get their own lab sections that semester.
The lab for 201 is, for some reason, called 203.
