Quad and Overflow spaces?

By placing students in one of our “special assigned spaces” (Quad or Overflow rooms) located within the residence halls, we are able to house students who would not have the on-campus living opportunity. <p>Do any current students have any experience with these assignments? Are they usually for students who send in their housing deposit later?</p>

<p>Oh gosh, I never thought that this was a possibility at Cal Poly although it happened to a friend of mines D at USF. She didn’t enjoy the experience. Do you know when they get room assignments?</p>

<p>I forgot to say that my friends D waited until the last minute to make a decision on college choices.</p>

<p>I am wondering if that link is old because now that they have Cerro Vista and Poly Canyon, I thought there was plenty of room for Freshmen in the dorms without these special arrangements. I also think they would be for last minute sign-ups and I know your daughter signed up early 2Leashes. I am sure she won’t be placed in one like that.
My son is looking forward to August 20th when he finds out about room assignemnts and roommates! I just don’t want it to come too fast. Summer is already slipping away!</p>

<p>^ Out of curiosity I just called Housing. It still applies, however it’s for the students who applied for housing later. I mentioned the addition of Cerro Vista and Poly Canyon and she said it’s definitely better than a few years ago. I asked her if they would be taking up space in student lounges and she said they’re mostly making triples out of doubles rooms. I’m glad my daughter applied for housing earlier on! :)</p>

<p>Good news. Yes, we are lucky that our kids signed up early. I have read some kids have liked the triples, but I think a regular double would be much better.</p>

<p>^ If I were attending as a freshman, my first choice would have been Cerro Vista. I prefer having my own space (room), but have no problem with sharing the common areas. I’ve been used to having my own bedroom just about all of my life (as a kid and teen) and I’m not so sure I could share tight quarters with someone else other than a sibling, maybe. Or my husband, of course! :slight_smile: I think a place like Cerro Vista or Poly Canyon is a good compromise. But, I’m equally glad my daughter feels comfortable with starting out in a traditional dorm. She’ll really *appreciate *her own room in her sophomore year and beyond. ;)</p>

<p>They were originally going to do this last year (like just stick 6-8 kids in a big room), but they ended up putting some freshmen in poly canyon instead which was probably a lot more comfortable.</p>
